The mighty Cat 6090 FS Hydraulic

real beast, impressively replicated with
tons of detail and functionality.

Cat 6090FS
Hydraulic Shove
The Cat 6090FS face shovel is arguably the largest hydraulic shovel there is, capable of digging in
a wide variety of applications and demanding climates with a 100-ton rated payload allowing the
loading of a 400-ton ultra-class haul truck in only 4 passes. Powered by two Cummins QSK60 diesel
engines which deliver an impressive 4500hp, the machine tips the scales at 1100 tons with a bucket

Hitachi ZX250LC-6
Tracked Excavator
While the latest Dash 6 version of the ZX250LC tracked excavator replica is an update to the previous
release, it has been started from the ground up with all-new tooling which is an interesting choice
from TMC. Being all-new, there are a host of small differences between the two models, the most
noticeable are the changes to the engine compartment which has a new design to cater for the
emission regulation technology. Another instantly noticeable difference is the fitting of a wide
grading bucket rather than a toothed digging bucket and this alone gives the model an interesting
appearance. Because the model has been started from new 3D cad data, the way things have been
implemented on the model differs from its predecessor, with most aspects an improvement although
everyone may not agree.

To top it off, the ends of the blade are

1:43rd Scale

Russian T-100
Tracked Tractor Kit
In this issue, I take a close look at the 1:43rd scale T-100 tracked tractor which has been produced
by AVD and supplied by Start Scale Models. The kit is a combination of die-cast metal and plastic
parts with everything included in the box (Excludes glue & paint) to construct the model. The
amount of metal parts is quite impressive and results in a weighty model once fully assembled.
The instructions are very easy to follow, with exploded diagrams showing where the various parts
fit. The entire chassis and track frames are constructed from plastic and there is a fair bit of detail
cast into the parts.

he cabin interior is another area Left:

seat, control levers, pedals and
centre console with the air intake
pipe also passing through the cabin
interior. The engine compartment and
cabin shell have some small detail parts
that need adding including lights, fuel
tank, front grill and grab handles.
The tracks are constructed from
individual metal links and these can be
tricky to clip together. Luckily there are an
additional 10 pads spare and I needed 9
before both track chains were assembled.
The links are quite fragile and there was a
little flash on some of the pads which
made them hard to join.
Once all the sub-assemblies are
finished, it is time to fit them together
temporarily to check everything is correct.
At this stage, I should have checked that
the clear glazing parts would fit fine, but
because they interlock and click into place,
I decided to fit them after painting which
did prove to be a mistake, as I struggled to

& XL-120 Low Loader Trailer
Diecast Masters have made a big impact in the die-cast world since they took on the Caterpillar
model licence and started producing a rapidly expanding range of detailed 1:50th scale replicas in
their “High Line” range while also introducing interesting special series releases, like the Evolution,
Elite and Commemorative series range. They have now introduced a new range of International
truck models, all produced in 1:50th scale including the HX520 Tandem tractor, HX620 Tridem
tractor, HX620 dump truck and HX615 concrete mixer with a new XL -120 low profile HDG
low loader Trailer. The “Transport” series is an interesting range including different colours
and combinations of truck and trailer so let’s take a closer look at the HX520 Tandem with

Europe by NZG.

Mobile Crane
There have been a number of Zoomlion die-cast models produced over the years, many of which
never really appear with model dealers in Europe and have to be sourced from Ebay. This is now
changing with NZG now looking to import some of these Chinese OEM models into Europe so that
they are available to collectors from the same dealers that stock the NZG range of models, starting
with the Zoomlion QAY220V 6-axle mobile crane.

T
he QAY220V is a 1:50th scale
model which has some rather
nice detailing. Starting with the
chassis, there is a fair amount of
underside detailing including the
suspension, drivetrain and steering with
the first three and rear pair of axles having
some steering movement. The H pattern
outriggers are two-stage extending with
screw down jacks to give a sturdy platform
although no crane mats are included in the
box.

feature of the model is the engine cover
which can be removed to display the

about 15 degrees.

used to lift the boom and this is authentic
in scale, with a smooth operation and just
enough resistance to keep the boom
raised, although the maximum angle is a
little lower than expected at full extension.
Two winches are fitted to the model, with
one of them pre-rigged with the main
hook. There is no second hook in the box
so the rearmost winch is not used.
Both winches are finished with a
detailed hydraulic motor, coupled up to
hydraulic lines which add realism with
the front-most winch needing the included
winding key to operate it. The
counterweights are fixed in position with
two side blocks which can be slotted into
the recesses, one on each side to increase
the ballast.
