Cat 6090FS
Hydraulic Shove
The Cat 6090FS face shovel is arguably the largest hydraulic shovel there is, capable of digging in
a wide variety of applications and demanding climates with a 100-ton rated payload allowing the
loading of a 400-ton ultra-class haul truck in only 4 passes. Powered by two Cummins QSK60 diesel
engines which deliver an impressive 4500hp, the machine tips the scales at 1100 tons with a bucket

While the latest Dash 6 version of the ZX250LC tracked excavator replica is an update to the previous
release, it has been started from the ground up with all-new tooling which is an interesting choice
from TMC. Being all-new, there are a host of small differences between the two models, the most
noticeable are the changes to the engine compartment which has a new design to cater for the
emission regulation technology. Another instantly noticeable difference is the fitting of a wide
grading bucket rather than a toothed digging bucket and this alone gives the model an interesting
appearance. Because the model has been started from new 3D cad data, the way things have been
implemented on the model differs from its predecessor, with most aspects an improvement although
everyone may not agree.

the rounded ends of each pad. This
gives the tracks an interesting look with
the idler wheels tensioned to keep the

replicated to allow the angle to be
adjusted, while the frame has plenty of
height adjustment. The ability to also
tilt the blade shows that a lot
of development work has gone into
getting this aspect of the model right
and Ros should be commended on this.
To top it off, the ends of the blade are
hinged, allowing them to fold in to

always interesting to see the differences to the

and are stiff enough to raise the model off its wheels. The
spacious cabin is also totally different to previous releases
with a curved roof and modelled interior which shows the
operator seat and joystick controls with clear glazing used
for the windows. Below the cabin is an access step with a
grab rail incorporated into the cab’s frame. The cab riser is
of a new lattice design and operates smoothly giving an
unobstructed view of the work area and the hydraulic feeds
from the valve block and along the back of the boom are
now raised which increases the realism while feeds to the
individual cylinders have not been fitted. A cactus scrap
grab is fitted to the end of the stick, complete with flexible
hydraulic lines and has the ability to open and close.

Tracked Tractor Kit
In this issue, I take a close look at the 1:43rd scale T-100 tracked tractor which has been produced
by AVD and supplied by Start Scale Models. The kit is a combination of die-cast metal and plastic
parts with everything included in the box (Excludes glue & paint) to construct the model. The
amount of metal parts is quite impressive and results in a weighty model once fully assembled.
The instructions are very easy to follow, with exploded diagrams showing where the various parts
fit. The entire chassis and track frames are constructed from plastic and there is a fair bit of detail
cast into the parts.

individual metal links and these can be
tricky to clip together. Luckily there are an
additional 10 pads spare and I needed 9

The links are quite fragile and there was a
little flash on some of the pads which
made them hard to join.
Once all the sub-assemblies are
finished, it is time to fit them together
temporarily to check everything is correct.
At this stage, I should have checked that
the clear glazing parts would fit fine, but
because they interlock and click into place,
I decided to fit them after painting which
did prove to be a mistake, as I struggled to

Terex AT20-3
‘Franna’ Exclusives
The Terex AT20-3 “Franna” is a typical Australian pick and carry mobile crane used in a number
of different transport and crane hire roles throughout Australia. Conrad has already produced a
1:50th scale model of the AT20-3 which has appeared in the corporate Terex decoration along with
a number of Australian companies, commissioned by Quarry Diecast Models and also a Mammoet
version. Three more exclusive versions featuring Australian companies have now been added to the
range and the corporate Terex version has just been released with new AT22 markings. Check out
the Quarry Diecast Models website for full details and pricing of all the versions currently available

Komp Cranes
Komp Cranes is a family run business which
started back in 2001 and provides crane hire
services to domestic, commercial and industrial
customers in the suburbs of Melbourne. With a
fully trained workforce holding all necessary
qualifications and experience in the mobile
crane industry, and a modern well-maintained
fleet of vehicles, no job is ever too small or too
big. The fleet consists of Liebherr LTM 1040 and
LTM 1055 mobile cranes, Hino crane truck, Kato
13-ton city crane, mobile crawler cranes and
Franna cranes, all sporting the company’s silver
and black decoration so it is no surprise that the

QAY220V is an impressive
Mobile Crane
There have been a number of Zoomlion die-cast models produced over the years, many of which
never really appear with model dealers in Europe and have to be sourced from Ebay. This is now
changing with NZG now looking to import some of these Chinese OEM models into Europe so that
they are available to collectors from the same dealers that stock the NZG range of models, starting
with the Zoomlion QAY220V 6-axle mobile crane.
T
he QAY220V is a 1:50th scale
model which has some rather
nice detailing. Starting with the
chassis, there is a fair amount of
underside detailing including the
suspension, drivetrain and steering with
the first three and rear pair of axles having
some steering movement. The H pattern
outriggers are two-stage extending with
screw down jacks to give a sturdy platform
although no crane mats are included in the
box.
