Starting an Internet Browsing Center

Let’s see the setup details of the browsing center.

1. Choose your location.

          Choosing the wise location is the critical part. The location should have enough
footfalls. It’s always good to have your business at ground floor in a complex or
building, especially the retail businesses like internet cafe where huge amount of
people come and go.  To start it’s good to rent a shop of 10X10 dimension. You can
have up to 5 computers. You can choose the location near to schools, college, railway
station or bus stand.
2. Purchase Hardware.
     
Don't go cheap. Rather go with quality. You can get a decent, assembled desktops
from INR 13,000. You can buy 5 of them. Go modern to stand out of competition.
Buy a laser printer, modem and router/switch.

3. Furniture.
          Contact a local carpenter and order custom made cheap and best cubicles for the
shop. Buy few comfortable chairs.

4. Internet Connection.
           Internets are becoming cheaper. If your shop is going to be in city, then first try
for a reliable local internet service provider who can provision fibre broadband.
Always go for a unlimited usage plans with minimum 4 Mbps speed. If you are setting
up in town or village then BSNL or Airtel would be good options.

5. Register your business and get license

           Its always good to register your business. As you are a start-up shop, going
with a sole- proprietorship is a good option. Also as per your state government
policies and law, get your proper license to operate a internet cafe.

Budget Break-Up: 1st Year

           Below break-up is the estimation  based on assumption that you are going to
rent a shop in a moderately busy area in a town or tier 2 city and the total dimension
of the shop is 10X10.

Earning Potential :-

          You can charge INR 20 per hour of browsing and minimum INR 5 for the
browsing for the first fifteen minutes. If one desktop can make INR 160 per day
running 8 hours, then for 5 computers you can make INR 800. Plus there will be lot of
printouts and CD writing or pen drive copy businesses. You can make another INR
500 per day on that.
