Revere America

Revere America is a newly formed, politically active 501(c)(4) nonprofit group headed by
former Governor George Pataki (R-NY). 1 So far, Revere America has spent more than $2.5
million during this election cycle, but the group has not disclosed a single donor. 2 Revere
America advocates for repealing the health care reform law. 3 The group’s first political
endeavor was a national petition drive and cross-country bus tour to gather signatures from
individuals opposed to the health care bill. 4 The group has also launched a campaign to solicit
pledges from current members of Congress and congressional candidates to repeal and replace
the bill. 5 Revere America has spent more than $2.5 million as of October 28, 2010, and has been
particularly active in the New Hampshire and New York House races, spending more than $1.4
million in New Hampshire opposing Democrats Carol Shea-Porter and Ann McLane Kuster, and
more than $797,508 in New York House races. 6 Revere America dramatically increased its
spending in the last week before the election, spending $287,409 in races nationwide, including
$55,647 opposing incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) in the California Senate race. 7 As a
501(c)(4) organization, Revere America is not required to disclose its donors, though at least one
public official has called for Gov. Pataki to reveal the source of the groups’ funding, given the
former governor’s previous support of transparency and campaign finance reform. 8 Gov. Pataki
defended Revere America’s anonymous donors, claiming that disclosure could subject
contributors “to boycott, to intimidate, to picket.” 9

Parker Collier

Parker Collier appears to be a main Revere America funder. She is the wife of Miles Carnes
Collier, who is the grandson of Barron Collier, the founder of Collier County, Florida. 10 The
Colliers are well-known land developers in Florida. 11 Miles founded and manages Collier
Enterprises, a real estate investment and development company. 12 Parker Collier is a principal
of Collier Enterprises, according to federal contribution records. 13

Collier’s Links to Revere America

• At least two of Revere America’s directors are tightly linked to the Colliers. One,
Michael Lenzner, is the chief executive officer of the Collier Family Office according to
his LinkedIn profile. 14 Florida lawyer Marianne Zuk, the president of Revere America, is
listed as an officer or director of several Collier companies in Florida incorporation
records. 15
• On May 5, 2010, Parker and Miles Collier hosted a Revere America reception at the
Collier Automotive Museum in Naples, Florida, according to an online posting on
Meetup.com. 16
• On September 8, 2010, Revere America held a press conference at the National Press
Club. 17 Ms. Zuk, speaking as Revere America’s president, said “Revere America was
born out of a very successful political committee called Americans for Responsible
Health Care. The committee was one of the first independent advertisers to support Scott
Brown.” 18 In 2010, Parker Collier was the sole donor to ARHC, donating $527,294,
according to FEC filings. 19
• On October 7, 2010, a lawyer filed incorporation records with the Florida Division of
Corporations on behalf of the Revere America Foundation [“RAF”]. 20 The mailing
address for RAF was listed on the incorporation records as 9450 Strada Stell Court, Suite
500, Naples, Florida 34109. 21 According to Collier County property records, this

 address does not exist. However, 9045 Strada Stell Court is an address for the Collier
Family Office Inc., as well as many other Collier-run companies. 22

Americans for Responsible Health Care

Parker Collier was the sole funder of an earlier political group, Americans for Responsible
Health Care. 23

• According to a March 11, 2010 Politico article, Jeff Cohen was the spokesman for ARHC
(Mr. Cohen has also been the spokesman for Revere America). 24 Mr. Cohen disclosed
that Parker Collier was the sole funder of an ARHC radio ad aimed at Democrats who
voted for health care reform. 25 Parker Collier also paid $200,000 for TV ads supporting
U.S. Senator Scott Brown’s (R-MA) health care platform. 26 According to FEC records,
ARHC paid Jamestown Associates for the Brown ads. 27 (Jamestown and its affiliate
Magnolia Media were the sole recipients of expenditures from Revere America until
October 27, 2010.) 28
• Americans for Responsible Health Care came under fire in a January 14, 2010 Boston
Globe article criticizing a pair of ads produced by ARHC in support of U.S. Senate
candidate Scott Brown. 29 The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee questioned
whether the ads – one of which featured New Hampshire Senate primary candidate
William Binnie – were illegal because “a fellow Republican U.S. Senate candidate is
behind them.” 30 Mr. Binnie denied his involvement in forming or funding ARHC and
said he is only a spokesman for the group. 31

Colliers’ Political Contributions

• The Colliers are politically active in their native Florida. They, their businesses and
relatives have contributed at least $78,000 to Prosperity Florida, a political group

 currently headed by former State Rep. Tom Grady. 32 The past chairman, Rick Scott, is
currently the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Florida. Parker Collier also donated
$500,000 to the Florida Republican Party this year. 33
• Parker and Miles Collier have donated thousands of dollars to Republican candidates
outside of Florida. They gave $50,000 this year to Rick Lazio’s failed New York
gubernatorial bid, and more than $90,000 to the Republican National Committee. 34 They
also supported Republican Sue Lowden in her failed primary bid for the Senate
nomination in Nevada; Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA); and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-
MN). 35

Revere America’s Connections

Why does a Florida real estate mogul care about House races in the northeast? There are many
connections that explain why:

George Pataki’s ties to the Colliers:

• Gov. Pataki (’67) and Parker Collier’s husband, Miles Collier (’69), overlapped at Yale
University. 36

• Art Finkelstein. Mr. Finkelstein is a well-known Republican strategist who has worked
on a number of races in both Florida and New York. Parker Collier donated heavily to
many of these races, including Mr. Lazio’s unsuccessful bid for governor of New York
and Mr. Binnie’s failed bid for the U.S. Senate in New Hampshire. 37 Mr. Finkelstein was
also the architect of Gov. Pataki’s gubernatorial races in New York. 38 Gov. Pataki raised
money for Binnie’s Senate bid earlier this year, likely because of the Finkelstein
connection. 39 In addition, Mr. Finkelstein has worked on many races in Florida,
including those of Rep. Connie Mack (R-FL) and Bill McCollum. 40 Parker Collier
donated to many of these Florida races on which Mr. Finkelstein worked. 41

Bill Binnie. Mr. Binnie, who press reports have stated is a friend of Parker Collier’s, is a
New Hampshire businessman who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by
Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH). 42 As he campaigned for the Senate, Mr. Binnie appeared in
ads produced by Americans for Responsible Health Care endorsing Sen. Brown’s
candidacy. 43 Mr. Binnie is also a supporter of Revere America, and Gov. Pataki held a

convertible mustang emblazoned with “Revere America” to talk to Americans about
Obama’s health care plan. 46 Ed Wideman is the businessman behind Virginia’s Ripley’s
Believe It or Not museum. 47 Laura Wideman gave two $2,400 contributions to Mr.
Binnie’s campaign in March 2010. 48

Jeff Cohen. Mr. Cohen served as chief of staff to Rep. Mack. 49 Mr. Cohen has also
been a spokesperson for Revere America and Americans for Responsible Health Care. 50

Michael Lenzner. Mr. Lenzner is listed as a director of the Revere America Foundation
(Florida Corporation) and is the chief executive officer of the Collier Family Office. 51

Marianne Zuk. Ms. Zuk is President of Revere America, a director of the Revere
America Foundation, and is listed as the secretary for numerous Collier companies in

Revere America’s Campaign

Until October 26, 2010, Revere America had concentrated the vast majority of its spending on
three House races in the northeast. 54 In the NH-1 district, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) is
running for reelection against Republican Frank Guinta, a former mayor of Manchester. 55 The
candidates themselves have raised more than $2.7 million, and outside groups have poured $2.4
million into the race. 56 Revere America has spent almost $740,000, or more than 30% of all the
outside money spent in the race. 57 The group spent all of it on TV ads highlighting Rep. Shea-
Porter’s support for health care reform. 58 Rep. Shea-Porter is a two-term incumbent, and recent
polls show she is trailing Mr. Guinta. 59 Revere America is one of the biggest spenders in this
race, second only to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in the amount
of money spent. 60 Twenty-three groups report making independent expenditures in the race. 61

Democrat Ann McLane Kuster is facing former Republican Rep. Charlie Bass in the NH-2
race. 62 Current Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH) is running for Senate. 63 Bass lost the seat in 2006 and
is trying to win it back. The candidates have raised more than $3 million combined, and outside
groups have spent more than $4 million on the race. 64 Revere America has spent almost
$750,000 in the race, or 20% of the total spent by outside groups. That money has been used to

air TV ads against Ms. Kuster, targeting her support for health care reform. 65 Most forecasters
list this race as a toss-up and the Sunlight Foundation lists it as one of the most expensive House
races in the country. 66 Of the 20 groups active in this race, Revere America is third only to the
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the American Action Network. 67

In addition to the two House races in New Hampshire, Revere America has also spent almost
$700,000 opposing Rep. John Hall’s (D-NY) bid for a third term representing the New York’s
19th District. 68 Rep. Hall is running against Republican Nan Hayworth, a doctor and
businesswoman. 69 Although, Rep. Hall won the district in 2008 with 59% of the vote, most
forecasters list the race as a tossup. 70 The candidates have raised more than $3.6 million
between them and outside groups have spent more than $2 million in the race. 71 Revere
America, the largest outside group active in the race, has spent almost $700,000 or more than a

Revere America has also spent more than $100,000 in opposition to Rep. Bill Owens (D-NY) in
the NY-23 district, where outside groups have spent more than $5.6 million. 73 Rep. Owens is
