3rd Grade Lesson Plan September 17, 2020

Objective
Students will review the solfa “re” and rhythm patterns including quarter notes, eighth
notes and half notes (ta, ti-ti, too).

Standards
3.12 The student will demonstrate music literacy.
a) Demonstrate the melodic shape (contour) of a written musical phrase.
b) Read and notate rhythmic patterns that include eigth notes, quarter notes, rests and half
notes.
3.13 The student will develop skills for individual and ensemble singing performance.
a) Sing melodies within the range of an octave
b) Sing in tune with a clear tone quality
3.15 The student will recognize and perform rhythmic patterns.
a) Use a counting system
b) Use instruments, body percussion and voice
3.17 The student will respond to music with movement.

5. Hot Cross Buns


1) Sing twice.

Questions:
“Do you know if it is getting higher or lower? Listen one more time” sing first phrase one
more time.
“Lower yes!”
Can you show me this on your body. Let’s place our hands on our head for the highest
pitch, on our shoulders for the middle pitch and on our legs for the lowest.”
Sing it one more time
“Do you know what the solfa is? Type it into the chat box if you know!”
Label it on the diagram
“Let sings it one last time”
“Great job, we will continue with this next time!”

Assessments
● Are students participating? This can be checked by looking at the students screen.
● Check white boards for rhythm dictations
○ Are they correct?
○ Are they writing rhythms properly?
● Check the chat box to see if students answer questions correctly.
Adaptations
For students who are more advanced we could increase the length of the echos. For
examples some echos could include s-m-s-s-m-m-s-m-r-r-d or s-l-s-m-s-m-r-d. For students who
are struggling we could use simpler patterns, for example doing the solfa patterns with just
quarter notes. For the dictation activities, if the students are succeeding we can increase the
length of the dictations. For students who are struggling we can repeat the pattern a few more
times before having the students display their white boards.
