Create a Positive Classroom Environment

Creating a positive classroom environment helps students develop academically, emotionally,
and a healthy environment for the school. To have a classroom with positive takes lots of
effort and time from a teacher. She needs to enforce and implement many things. According
to me, what I have the experience, it took time to experience and experiment in my case to
design a healthy interactive classroom. There are many things as a teacher we plan but
sometimes a very successful strategy can also fail, I believe, and try to implement the
following things.
*Starting with a positive note at the entrance of the class helps or exchange of a smile.
*Mindfulness activities at the beginning of the day or when students return from a lunch
break or after having any physical activity class. (P.E, Dance, or Music)
*Set rules with the students and have an agreement signed by them, so they are aware of the
consequences.
* Always be there for students when they want to talk or share something with you.
* Having a noise-o- meter in class which can help to maintain discipline and volume control
in class( whisper, group activity, silence)
* Creating a responsibility chart and allotting students' duties. ( board cleaner, helper,
classroom manager) change the chart weekly or every 15 days, so all the students get a
chance to be a responsible part of the class.
*Maintain eye contact with students, which is very helpful for a teacher as she can identify
the questions visible in the eyes of students, it also helps students not to get diverted to other
things.
*Keeping a Marble Jar, having students to know that a positive, responsible attitude or any
helpful gesture by a student will help to add a marble to the jar whereas negative behavior
can be a reason to remove a marble from the jar.when the jar is full students gets a reward
from as once we have a popcorn party and there was a time when a parent volunteered to
bake pastries for the entire class.
*Motivation is also a very essential part of having a classroom environment healthy, just a
sentence like I can understand, it's ok we will try to figure it out, don’t worry we I am there if
u need any help.
I had a student coming from grade 4 with disciplinary issues, to make sure that he does not
have a similar attitude I tried first being firm with classroom rules, but things were not going
in the way they were supposed to, so I tried talking to during break time or dear time when
others are also free to share their experience, he started to open up and was sharing his
thoughts and views, I had to be some time liberal with him on completing his work, but to my
surprise, he started working and completing, I did not know what went right but things started
getting better, today he has become more responsible and independent.
Managing a classroom is always a challenge and a teacher faces it every year so as I
mentioned before it takes time with a lot of experiments and experience, but as it is said a
strong foundation can be built a strong building, therefore being focused, setting goals,
sticking to plan will help to develop a positive classroom environment.
