Conurbation of Technology in Education

Not since World War II have so many countries around the world seen schools and educational
institutions go into lockdown at around the same time and for the same reason. While we know that
the impact of this virus will be far-reaching, what might it mean in the longer term for education?

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. During the COVID-
19 pandemic crisis, the dispensation of formal education is something that should not be halted.

For a while now, educators around the world have been talking about the need to rethink how they
educate future generations. This might just be the disruption that the sector needed to get.

The majority of students in our educational institutions today are from Generation Z, a generation
that has grown up in a truly globalized world. This generation, the oldest of whom are now 25 years
old, this generation is defined by technology.

The COVID-19 crisis may well change our world and our global outlook; it may also teach us about
how education needs to change to be able to better prepare our young learners for what the future
might hold.

In the field of education technology, most products and services on the market work to improve the
educational experiences of students, instructors or managers. Far fewer are intended to ensure the
educational experience can continue for each student on their own, in the event of choice — or
necessity.

Schools face a difficult choice: if they don’t teach remotely, all their students miss out on months of
curriculum. If they do, a sizable group of already disadvantaged students will be left out and will fall
even farther behind.

It makes sense to continue to develop online infrastructure and have everything available to and
also because it’s not complicated; over the idea of high quality education needing to be offered in a
face-to-face format as opposed to being offered in an adaptable, online format.

In a country like Pakistan shifting to online education is not that easy. Pakistan is not a tech-savvy
country which is one of the major reasons we are having problems in the education sector after the
pandemic caused a countrywide shutdown. There are a few challenges in online education, one is
technology and knowing how to use it, then there is acknowledging which platform to use. The
better way for teachers and educational institutions is to record lectures rather than giving them in
real-time. This way we can cope with the hindrances and the students can easily access lectures
even on a slow internet connection.  Moreover, discussion forums and a redefined assessment
method based on cognitive learning are the need of the hour.

Local educational broadcasts, with separate channels focused on different ages, and a range of
digital options. The educational television channel, TeleSchool, for children in grades one through
12. The channel has been developed by the Ministry of Federal Education and Technical Training in
collaboration with the Pakistan Television (PTV) and the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) with
additional input from several non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The channel, launched with
the slogan ‘education at home’, will provide educational content to students for the period schools
remain closed in the country owing to the novel coronavirus.

Otherwise, a simple compromise, delay or disruption in education can put the careers of the future
generations at risk.
