CAP209: GRAPHIC TOOLS

DOA- January 20, 2011 DOS- February 01,2011

PART A

1. There are various tools available to implement web and windows

based applications. Discuss the various tools in detail.

Visual Studio Tools for Windows-based Application Development

Just as with any other .NET Framework application, you can create
Windows-based applications in a text editor, make calls to .NET
Framework methods and classes, compile your application at the
command line, and distribute the resulting executable application.
Alternatively, you can use Visual Studio 2005. When you use Visual
Studio 2005 to create Windows-based applications, you are creating
essentially the same application that you could create by manually
writing code. The advantage of using Visual Studio 2005 is that it
provides tools that can make application development faster, easier, and
more reliable. The following list shows some of the more important
Windows-based application development tools:
• Visual designers for Windows Forms with drag-and-drop controls. For
more information, see Windows Forms Designer.
• Code-aware editors that include statement completion, syntax checking,
and other IntelliSense features.
• Integrated compilation and debugging.
• Project management tools for creating and managing application files,
including deployment locally, over an intranet or over the Internet

Java Technologies to Use in Web Applications

There are too many Java technologies to list in one article, sothis article
will describe only the ones most frequently used. Thenumber of technologies
listed here can appear overwhelming. Keep inmind that you will not need to use
them all. In fact, a webapplication often consists of nothing more than one page
createdwith the JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology. Sometimes you
willcombine three or more such technologies. No matter how many you end
upusing, it's good to know what is available to you and how you can useeach
one in a web application
Web applications are by nature distributed applications, meaning that they
are programs that run on more than one computer and communicate through a
network or server. Specifically, web applications are accessed with a web
browser and are popular because of the ease of using the browser as a user
client. For the enterprise, the ability to update and maintain web applications
without deploying and installing software on potentially thousands of client
computers is a key reason for their popularity. Web applications are used for
web mail, online retail sales, discussion boards, weblogs, online banking, and
more. One web application can be accessed and used by millions of people.

2. What is the use of Adobe Photoshop and Corel draw in desktop

publishing.

Adobe Photoshop and Corel draw Desktop publishing serve one

common purpose they are both used for professional publishing on a
large scale, to designing and printing your own letterhead, calendars,
posters and business cards and web designing.
All the essential tools for page layout, vector illustration, image
editing, bitmap-to-vector tracing, and Web graphics and animation are
available in the software.
application used by the majority of design professionals throughout
the world. Both the software offers incredible creative freedom both in
terms of manipulating existing images, creating new art work, and
integrating all design elements. they also supports vector graphics,
easy automation, and a wide range of other improved features,
including vanishing point effects, one-click red-eye correction and
much more.

3. Discuss all the designing capabilities of any 3 Computer and the

various Software’s available in market for designing.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 is the best web site development software/tool

available today. If you are a professional web designer looking for a rapid
application tool to design web sites, this is your best bet. We've been using
Adobe for a long time and highly recommend it to everyone who is interested in
learning web site development. This tool generates HTML code for you, (so you
don't have to be an expert HTML programmer to develop a web site!). Cool
stuff possible using Dreamweaver includes rollovers, css styles, server side
includes, templates and much more.

Xara Web Designer puts all this technology together in one easy to use
application that most of Xara Xtreme
users will be familiar with and one that new users will be able to get up to speed
quickly. Design-challenged users
will find a wealth of pre-designed templates that can easily be customized, just
like in Webstyle. But now you can
add content and publish your website all in one place. It’s really quite amazing
SerifWebPlus X2 is a visual site builder and What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get
(WYSIWYG) web editor, that lets you create websites easily without havingto
learn technical things like HTML, CSS, PHP, etc. This tutorial shows you how to
use that editor to create your website.
Web Easy Professional 8 by Avanquest. Whether you are making your first
web page or you have been in the business for years Web Easy Professional has
you covered. With over 500 templates for businesses, home and family,
recreation and many others you can find the perfect page layout in seconds.
Never again will creating a web page take days to complete, within hours you
can have a professional looking web page created, published and ready for the
world to see. One of the standout features Web Easy Professional includes is
what we like to call the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), what you
see on the software is what everyone else will see once your site goes live. With
unlimited website creation, intuitive screen controls and easy to follow tutorials
Web Easy Professional is an outstanding website creation software
The other interesting software now commonly used is the CoffeeCup
2006, which is not only cheaper but also very easy to use by any ordinary web
site designer. CoffeeCup 2006 is best to use for the simple websites and home
business services, because it does not include the advanced features of the e-
commerce. It still requires you to post the website through a web hosting
service.

PART B

4. Write down the various colour modes supported by Photoshop?

There are different color models supported in Photoshop. The main

four are:
• RGB
• LAB
• CMYK- Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Key (Black)
• Grayscale
RGB is the most commonly used color mode today in digital
photography. Our workflow will be performed mainly in this mode.
RGB is an additive color model. All colors are built from three
components; Red, Green and Blue. A triple (0, 0, 0) defines black and
(255, 255, 255) is a bright white (should rarely occur in any image).
We will later discuss that RGB values do not define absolute colors,
but are device dependent instead.
Lab color mode
The CIE-LAB color mode is important for understanding color
management. There are also some interesting techniques that use the
LAB mode. The interesting aspect of LAB is that it separates color
(chroma, A+B) from the detail/brightness (luminance, L) in images.
Although this is an important color model for the printing press it is
not used much in digital photography. Even if inkjet printers are
technically CMYK (most are even CcMmYK with additional light
Cyan and Magenta inks) printers, their interface is strictly RGB to the
user.

5. Images can be modified in Adobe Photoshop. Suggest different ways

in which an image can be modified.

The different ways in which an image can be modified are as fallows

• Changing the size of the image

• Cropping an image
• Making image darker or lighter
• Lasso Tool
• Magic Wand
• Manipulating an image
• Rubber Stamp/Cloning
• Layers
• Adding Text to Images
• Filters
• Resources
• Using Dropshadow in Photoshop Layers
• Using Bevel & Emboss in Photoshop
• Using Satin Style in Photoshop Layers
• Dropshadow Style in Photoshop Layers

6. How can you record different actions applied on an image?

Actions are mini recordings of commands. These text files store a kind of
shorthand that only Photoshop can read. Once it reads the commands, it applies
them sequentially to any image. While that may sound difficult, it isn't. In
simpler terms, you load or create an action, store it in the action palette, and
whenever you want to repeat the processes covered by the action, you hit Play.
That's all there is to it.
Getting Started
Open the Actions palette. (Hit the F9 function key, or go to Windows -> Show
Actions.)
Using the Action Palette
1. Action set folder: This is where you store sets of actions. Actions must
be saved in "sets." A set can contain between one and 100 actions. I
suggest that you put related actions together in sets. For example, put all
of your sharpening actions in one set, and all your resize and rotate
actions in another.
2. Action: This is the actual set of commands recorded in macro form. You
have to select this to ensure the correct action is being applied to the
image.

Figure 1. This is the Photoshop Actions palette in Edit mode

3. On/Off command: This turns an action (or an effect nested inside of an
action) on or off.
4. Dialogue icon: Requires user intervention. When the action is running,
the user may click this to modify the highlighted command. If it is turned
off, Photoshop will execute the defaults for that command.
5. Play button: Begins playing an action (or set of actions).
6. Record button: Starts recording (or resumes) recording (not in button
mode).
7. Stop record: When finished running an action, hit this button (not in
button mode).
8. New set: Creates a new set in which to place your actions (not in button
mode).
9. New action: Creates a new action within the selected set (not in button
mode).
10. Delete action: Deletes the selected action (or steps within the action).
Simply drag and drop the action to this icon to delete it (not in button
mode).
11. Resize palette: Self-explanatory.
12. Action menu icon: This opens the action menu and allows you to edit the
action, insert new commands, delete commands, and save sets (not in
button mode).
Once you have the palette open, you should see the default actions that came
with Photoshop. If these are not present, you have probably modified your
Photoshop defaults or deleted the actions. To reinstall them, go to the Goodies
folder on your Photoshop CD, find the Actions folder, and reinstall.

Figure 2. When you click on the delta (triangle) located at the top-right corner
of the palette, you get the fly-out menu
To load or edit existing actions, create new actions, or delete actions, you open
the Actions menu. Click the small triangle (or delta) located in the upper right-
hand corner of the actions palette. Take a look at the example below.
Loading actions is very simple. On the fly-out menu, select "Load actions." Find
the action on your hard disk that you wish to load and double-click. It will pop
right into the actions palette. To run the action, hit Play. (This assumes you are
in edit mode, not button mode).
