REACTION PAPER:

"United Nations: Impossible Dream"

We all know that Ma'am Martha discussed about the differences in the society. One of the differences,
are the difference in terms of gender. I just found out that gender and sex are different. Sex, is based on
the biological condition of your body, for example, women got boobs and do menstruation, while men's
body do different things. Gender, is all about what the common society thinks, or expects from you. For
example, you are a woman. Of course people expect you to be graceful, thorough, and kind. But if you
are a man, you are expected to be strong and gentle. But in the real world, not all men and women can
fulfill those gender expectations. Based on my expectations, women must stay in the house to raise the
kids, clean, cook, and lots of other stuffs, and men got to work to get money and bringing home the
bacon. Women can have good careers outside their houses. Women get the same opportunities as men
for jobs or educations. That means, it's double the job.

Even worse, some women work so hard on their jobs, their children, and their household, but
sometimes they got abused by their husband! While watching the video entitled "United Nations: The
Impossible Dream" I feelt sorry to the woman who act in the story. This short story captures today's
issue and condition of our lives, especially women. The video takes a "wry humourous look" at a
problem faced by women everywhere. The double-workload of a full time job and for being a housewife.
They both work outside but it's unfair to the women because she will do whatever his husband asked.
The woman puts her the same hours as her husband is paid leseer than the man. In addition, caring for
the children and all the household duties remain her responsibility. Her husband was just a nonsense in
their family because he is like a baby who can't crawl or eat without her wife. I hate that kind of man!
We need to respect women and we need to help them in the household chores and especially we need
to treat them equally.

This video can help women or men in the whole world to awaken them about the gender issues in
society that affect the family, workplace, and community. It emphasizes also about the need for men to
share the burden of housework and child raising through humour and superb visuals. There are many
lessons in this story that will help us to realized what to do and to know about the importance of gender
issues in our society. This is all I can say about my reaction paper on the short story entitled "United
Nations: Impossible Dream".
