What is a rubric?
A rubric is a scoring guide used to
evaluate performance, a product,
or a project in an objective
manner. It has three parts:
1) performance criteria;
2) rating scale; and
3) indicators.

Why are rubrics fantastic ?

 We can grade students performance objectively

 They make grading clear, quick and more objective
 They keep us honest in our grading
 They improve students and projects learning and therefore increase learning
 We make available rubrics before hand, so they can undertand how they will be evaluated
 We get better quality work
 Students will know what you want in advanced and how they performance will be graded
 Students will see right away how they lost points

 We can make them of find them on line…

Let´s create a
rubric!
THINK
ABOUT THE
WORLD´S
BEST
"ALFAJOR"
Step 1
Think about the qualities
and characteristics of the
world´s best alfajores:
 Amount of milk caramel
Texture
Color
Taste
Flavor
Step 2
Choose one of the
characteristics , let´s use
taste as an example.
In our evalution will choose
your levels of quality:
Delicious
Good
Needs improvement
Poor
Step 3
Decide what descriptors we will
choose for the four levels of
quality. We will have a range of
textures :
Chewy
Chewy on the middle crisp on
the edges
50% undercooked
Texture like a rock!
And then repeat the process for
each of the criteria
This is how your rubric will look like:
