Key theme(s)
THEME: Impact of Changing Created by Individual

In this movie, theme of the impact of changing created by individual can be often seen
throughout the main characters; Schindler, Stern and Amon. It is obvious that the power of individual
is able to create a change in society. However, not only the authority ones are able to make a change to
the society but it is everyone who is able to use their power efficiency such as Stern, a Jewish man who
became one of the important reasons that change Schindler’s mindset.

Central Characters: Oskar Schindler

- A charismatic German businessman under the Nazi party.

- Originally, he was not a virtuous man.
- He made connections with various Nazi officers and
employed Jewish people solely because of their low wage.
- Schindler’s turning point is when he sees the little girl in a
red dress. From that point onwards, gradually, he begins
to see the cruelty of Nazi and discreetly helps many Jews.
- With money and connections, Schindler has power: power
to negotiate, to influence people’s decision, power to do
the right thing.

don’t.”
Central Characters: Amon Goeth

- A commandant of a Nazi labor camp in Krakow

- He is a ruthless and cruel man who sees jewish people as
lesser and will not hesitate to kill them.
- Despite being ultimately evil, Goeth is not a one
dimensional character: he experiences conflicts because of
his liking for his jewish maid, Helen, and he contemplates
on Schindler’s words about the meaning of power
- If Schindler is the image of the power of good, then Goeth
is the perfect picture of power in the wrong hands.
- for Goeth, power is control
Central Characters: Itzhak Stern

- A jewish accountant or employee who works for Schindler.

- He is the man behind Schindler’s success, the man who
secretly tries to save jewish people by forging documents
allowing many jews to work, turns Schindler’s factory into
a poor man’s sanctuary for jewish people, and he is the one
who slowly pushes Schindler to become more virtuous.
- When he accepts the offer and works for Schindler, he
gains the ability/power to save his people.
- His constant effort to help jewish people slowly chipped
away at Schindler’s heart and made him more
compassionate and empathetic.
