 Abstract
As a part of our group assignment for the first year - second semester, we have come up
with the overall operating system and architecture of a device known as “Alienware m15
OLED” which is a gaming laptop that has high quality of Graphics and high display
quality.

There are very few that, we believe, could argue when it is said that this device is the
new QR code of this decade. This lighter device has exponentially surpassed its
predecessors as they take less quantity of manpower and effort. Aspirations to become
prospective developers ourselves in the future, we decided why not start now.

About the company and device used in this project, we chose Alienware m15 OLED
gaming laptop with Dell Inc. This laptop utilizes a proprietary software solution that
automatically updates daily to keep our data accurate and consistent. This device
provides us the overall insight of hardware and software components. Over all, it is an
interesting assignment and meets the requirements to understand the concept of operating
systems and computer architecture.

1. Introduction
1.1. Company overview

Dell Inc. is an American multinational information technology corporation that

makes, supports, sells and fixes computer based hardware and additional items. The
corporation was developed in the year 1984 and had its headquarters in Round Rock,
Texas, and United States. The corporation was set up by Michael Dell, and now it is
one of the greatest technology ventures on earth, having around 138,000 agents
around the globe.

Dell Inc. manages a wide scope of information technology items like computer
peripherals, data storage devices, cameras, servers, PCs, workstations(laptops),
tablets, network switches, HDTV's , printers, advanced mobile phones, software and
hardware components. Having an assortment of items, the Dell Company for the most
part manages the assembling and selling of PCs and notebooks. They offer an
assortment of laptops like Inspiron Laptops, Alienware PCs, XPS Laptops and many
more. The most one of a kind element that makes Dell exceptional from other
technology companies is its inventory network management which incorporates the
strategies like 'direct deals model',' build – to – order’, ‘configure – to – order’
approaches for both at the season of assembling and circulating the items.

They received lots of awards and achievements as their own by their innovative ideas
and experience in the industrial field. Dell is the third largest cooperation having large
number of pc vendor around the globe after Lenovo and HP, and listed at 51th
number in the fortune 500 list. As fortune magazine stated, it is the second largest
non-oil corporation in Texas after AT & T and sixth largest corporation by its
revenue. It exports PC monitors in higher rate around the globe. Dell was the first
corporation in selling their products through internet and by the end of 2013 its
revenue was 56.94 billion US$.

They had their first plant in Texas in 1998, and gradually they expanded their territory
to Europe region, in Limerick, Ireland. Now they have seven well established plants
at different locations: three in Texas, one in Ireland, one in Malaysia, one in China
and one in Brazil.

They are growing day-by day because of their quality products, their tactics towards
marketing policies, their strategies towards managing the products and its policies
towards managing the inventory. It has an adaptable and dependable store network
management system which lessens stock and expenses. Dell's vital administration
theory unmistakably bolsters its store network management and its tasks, which
makes the main attribute of its success.

1.2. Introduction to Device

The Alienware m15 2019, despite its slender frame, is one of the sharpest looking and
feeling gaming laptops to date, with amazing niceties such as a smart cooling solution
and profound important travel. The m15 has become the most flexible 15-inch gaming
laptop built by Alienware. While this is certainly a nice thing, it's likely only great
when comparing the m15 to other laptops from Alienware. For eg, the normal
Alienware 15 is 30 mm thick and 7.7lbs heavy, whereas the Alienware m15 is only
about 27 mm thick only and 4.8lbs (2.2 kg) is crucial. The weight variation is
enormous, making the m15 a much more portable and flexible system. (Dell.com,

Features of the device

 Operating System

This device is available with Windows 10 and Windows 10 Pro. Gaming on Windows
10 is better than ever, with games in 4 K, DirectX 12, and streaming your gameplay.

 Battery Life

Alienware laptops continuously have the longest battery performance in their class,
despite all the flashing lights and advanced features. The same applies to the m15,

which lasted an amazing 6 hours and 25 minutes, surpassing the contest and the
average 3:37 premium gaming laptop. The Blade 15 lasted 5:54 while the Stealth
Thin reached 5:40 and the Zephyrus hit 2:40.

 Gaming, Graphics and VR

This laptop has a GTX 1070 Max – Q GPU with 8GB of VRAM. This laptop
primarily focuses on efficiency of power. Nvidia says that all these chips support a
thinner and quieter device without giving up too much power.

People involved in developing the OS

Andrew Lees, the chief of Microsoft’s mobile technologies, at the Microsoft

Worldwide Partner Conference in 2011, said that the company wanted to have a
common software ecosystem for all the devices and products of Microsoft. He said,”
We won’t have an ecosystem for PC's and one for phone and one for tablets – they’ll
all come together.”

The technology writer of Microsoft Mary Jo Foley, on December 2013 that Microsoft
was working on an update to Windows 8 which was named as “Threshold”, after a
planet in Microsoft’s Halo video game franchise. Threshold was called “wave of
operating systems” across multiple Microsoft platforms and services. Foley also said
that the major goal of the Threshold was to create a common application platform and
development toolkit for Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox One.

On September 30, 2014, Threshold was officially announced during a media event
under the name Windows 10. According to Myerson, Windows 10 would be
Microsoft’s “most comprehensive platform for desktop computers, tablets, laptops,
smartphones and all-in-one devices. He said that Windows 10 took a step further in
restoring the user interface mechanics of Windows 7 and to enhance the one-touch
devices experience for users also noting the criticism of touch – oriented interface of
Windows 8 by keyboard and mouse users.

Terry Myerson stated the reason for naming the new operating system Windows 10
instead of Windows 9 that “based on the product that’s coming, and just how different

our approach will be overall, it wouldn’t be right to call it Windows 9.” It would also
not be called as “Windows One” because Windows 1.0 already existed and also there
are several recent products of Microsoft with a similar brand, such as OneDrive,
OneNote and Xbox one. Microsoft was trying to compose a single platform and
ecosystem that combines as many of all the devices including from a small embedded
Internet of Things through tablets , phones, PC’s and Xbox.

People Involved in Development of Device

Alienware m15 OLED is built by the Alienware; an American computer hardware

subsidiary of Dell. Alex Aguila and Nelson Gonzalez founded Alienware on 1996
A.D. The corporate headquarters of this company is situated in Miami, Florida and in
The Hammocks.

Alienware was established in 1996 as Sakai of Miami, Inc. This company serves
people by assembling desktops, notebooks, PC gaming consoles and workstations.
The reason behind name “Alienware” was due to the founder’s fondness of the
famous television show The X-Files. It also inspired them to name science-fiction
names of their products like Area – 51, Aurora and Hangar 18. Alienware was named
in 1997.

On March 22, 2006, Dell purchased Alienware Company. Dell retained its competing
XPS line of gameplay pcs that often sell pcs of similar features that may have affected
Alienware in its market segment. The XPS product was downscaled due to corporate
restructuring in the spring of 2008, and the desktop line was destroyed leaving only
the XPS Notebooks.

2.3. Conclusion about the most important components.

Since the time it was launched it is covering the market and getting positive reviews
from the clients. Alienware m15 is especially the choice of gamers and other users
who need high definition laptops with high resolution facility and high graphics.
Those who are connected to the field of video editing, animation developing, 3D
designing etc. are mostly satisfied with this version of Alienware. Alienware m15
consists many components which make it unique from other laptops such as OLED
display which provides crystal clear images that even 4K quality motion pictures play
smoothly. Killer Wireless 1550 802.11ac 2x2, Bluetooth 5.0, Killer Networks E2500
Gigabit Ethernet is the networking component that come up with this laptop which
provides high bandwidth of network. As Alienware m15 is gaming laptop, it provides
battery backup of 4 hours which is the highest rank or rate in the context of any
gaming laptop. By reviewing all the specifications of Alienware m15 OLED laptop, it
is concluded that the laptop is life changing gadget for the client who are working
with the PCs and are totally fitted for their personality.

The Alienware m15 OLED gaming laptop has windows 10 is a product of Microsoft.
Windows 10 is an operating system used for personal computers. It was officially
launched on 29th July, 2015 by Microsoft. This operating system is built on C++ and
C# languages. It is the latest operating system which came after windows 8.1. It is a
closed-source software. This software is available in 110 different languages. It latest
version 10.0.18 362.267 was released on 26th July, 2019. It has Hybrid (Windows NT)
as its kernel type.

By the occurrence of windows 10, the windows runtime app eco system was revised
into the Universal Windows Platforms (UWP). This revision of universal apps
enabled all the apps to run across multiple devices and platforms which includes
smartphones, Xbox One consoles, tablets, and other windows 10 devices. Microsoft
store was introduced with windows 10. This is a unified store front for apps, video
content and eBooks.

 It introduced Microsoft Edge web browser replacing Internet Explorer.
 It supports fingerprint and face recognition login.
 Crotona, a personal assistant is introduced.

3.3.User interface

Start menu of Windows 10 has a new iteration which is used on the desktop and also
has a list of places and other options on the left sides, whereas on the right there are
file representing applications on the right. A new concept of virtual desktop system
was introduced. Also, there is an interesting feature called Task View which displays
all the windows opened and also allows user to switch between them. We can drag the
program windows to corner snapped to quadrants of the screen. A task view appears
to the corner of the screen when a window is snapped and the user is prompted to
choose a second window to fill the unused side of the screen which is known as “Snap
Assist”. Also, the icons of windows’ system were changed.

Windows 10 is intended to adapt its user interface depending on the device type used
and the input methods available. It provides two distinct user interface modes: a
mouse- and keyboard-optimized user interface and a touch-screen "tablet mode."
Users can switch between these two modes at any time, and when certain events
occur, Windows can prompt or switch automatically, such as disabling tablet mode on
a tablet mode when a keyboard or mouse is plugged in or when a 2-in-1 PC is
switched to its laptop state. Tablet mode, default programs to a maximized view, and
the task bar includes a back button and hides icons for opened or pinned programs;
instead, Task View can be used to switch between programs.

Process control management:

Process control management is the way of keeping the procedure in the balanced
point or exact point so that it will generate efficiency. Since the time we use the data,
we are alternately controlling the process and relate it towards functioning the
procedure profitably it is including business regard. The following are steps involved
in process control management:

Process:

Process is a program which gradually grows or improvises during the execution. It

has a unique identification in a work unit. It requires hardware as well as software
components to perform and complete its task. Program is the group of files that
consists of codes for machine to load and perform to produce the result. Therefore, we
can define process as “a program under execution, which competes for the CPU time
and other resources.” (Godbole, 2000, p. 197)

Program is divided into four units namely stack, heap, text and data ,after it being
loaded into the system memory :

Process life cycle:

As soon as the execution of program is done, process begins which then transfers
through the different stages. As the names of these stages are not standardized, they
can vary in different operating system.

Though, at once each operating system have the following five stages of process:

Process control block (PCB):

Process control block is embedded in operating system which is a data structure, helps
in managing the schedule of process as it contains the needed information for
scheduling. It is contained by every user. It determines the state of operating system.
All these PCBs are kept in memory reserved for the operating system (Godbole,
2000, p. 205).

As it is also called as task control block, it contains the address that is going to be
executed next in the process. It keeps track of the operating system as it consists

different typical files needed for the process. A PCB keeps track of the following
components of process:

Operating systems are the building block of a PCB where the information varies
according to the different operating system.

As the PCB is designed for the execution of process, process fails once the PCB is
erased or removed from the system.

3.5.Security and Protection Services

Windows 10 includes multi-

factor authentication technology based on FIDO Alliance standards. There is an
improved support for biometric authentication in this operating system through
Windows Hello Platform. Devices equipped with cameras having infrared
illumination allows users to authenticate with face recognition or iris. Devices with
support of various types of scanners allows users to login with fingerprint recognition.

A PIN authentication is also supported by Windows Hello. By default, windows

requires 4 digit PIN code for authentication but can be configures to more complex
PINs. A PIN is not, however, an easy password. While passwords are passed on to
domain controllers, there are no PINs. They are linked to one device and only one
device will be adversely affected if it is damaged. Windows utilizes PINs to produce
powerful asymmetric key pairs, backed by a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip. It
is harder to crack the verification token transmitted to the server. Moreover, while
weak passwords can be breached through rainbow tables, TPM makes the Windows
PINs much-simpler resilient to brute-force attacks key pairs.

Two elements were produced when Windows 10 was first introduced: Windows Hello
and Passport (not to be confused with the 1998 Passport platform). Passport was
subsequently combined into Windows Hello.

A system analyst is a person who is recruited in an organization as a consultant,

supporting expert for any project and as an agent to change. A system analyst
analyzes, design and implement information systems. They are responsible for
analyzing and designing techniques to solve business problems using Information
Technology. They are also responsible for change in a business if necessary. A
business analyst will assess the company need, define the suitable solution, and to
some extent without diving too deeply into its technical parts, relying instead on a
system analyst to do so. (Osborne, 2019)

Roles of System Analyst:

i. Analyze software limitations by interacting with the system architect.

ii. Help programmers in the process of system development by providing UMLs,
flowcharts, etc.
iii. It is the responsibility of the system analyst to design parts and provide the
developer with that data and information.
iv. Develops cost analysis, staff impact amelioration, design considerations and
implementation timelines.
v. They are responsible for planning and managing resources for a system
manufacture.

Price and Availability

Dell wants a rather surprising price for its new thin-and-light gaming laptop: $1,499
(about £ 1,200, AU$2,170) when it lands on June 11. That price doesn't seem
surprising on its face, but consider the hardware on offer at that level. At this price we
can get either a 15.6 inch or 17.3 inch, Full HD (1,920 * 1,080) display at a 60 Hz
powered by 9th Generation, Nvidic GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB GDDR5) Graphics

chip(GPU) and intel Core i5 processor (CPU). This is combined with a solid-state
drive (SSD) 256 GB PCIe M.2 and 8 GB of memory (RAM) at 2.666MHz. (Osborne,
2019)

That seems like a lot of money to start with a laptop with a absolutely standard
display and graphics power not beyond GTX 1050 chip from last year. You could get
a 15-inch laptop last year, with a 60Hz display and under $1,000 GTX 1050 graphics.
Granted, it wouldn't come with the extra features we're going to get through in the
near future, but penny-for-pixel performance (if you like) matters quite a bit in
gaming laptops–much more than devices for use in general. (Smith, 2019)

Either with a 240Hz FHD display coupled with Tobii eye-tracking technology
integrated into the webcam array or an OLED Ultra HD (3,840x 2,160) with Tobii
tech as well as HDR 400 color reproduction, while Dell is not yet speaking about
extended pricing possibilities. On the 17-inch version, Dell does not even offer OLED
4 K or FHD 240Hz displays.

As for inside, with up to an Intel Core i9-9980HK CPU and 16 GB of RAM, you can
max out either size laptop. Single-drive options top out at 2 TB SSDs for storage,
while multi-drive configurations stop in RAID0 orientation at two 2 TB SSDs. In an
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q with 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory, of course,

The pricing of Alienware m15 Laptop depends on various aspects:

i. Slimmer and trimmer

The main difference that we can notice in Alienware m15 is 14.2×10.8×0.8
inches whereas the precious models were about 15.3×12×1 inches. This new
model is also lighter than the previous models. The previous Alienware 15 R4
weights at about 7.7 pounds, whereas the new Alienware m15 has decreased its
weight to about 4.76 pounds.
ii. Storage

 There is not much difference in storage options in Alienware m15 compared to
its thicker 15R4, but it stands above from the completion from other brands. The
new Alienware m15 has 2.5 inch drive.
iii. Display
There is a great difference in the Alienware m15 compared to the 15R4. The
15R4 offers anything from 1080p to 4k, with and without G-sync supposed. But
the new m15 limits is display to 1080p/60Hz, 1080/144Hz & 3840×2160/60Hz.

Quality and Performance of device

The Alienware’s m15 is one of the most portable 15-inch gaming laptop designs till
date. Alienware provides from options for the fan profiles: Balanced, Plus cool, Quiet
and performance modes. There is not huge difference between the Balanced and
Performance modes because both can ramp up the fan to the same level while gaming.
In balanced mode the fan quietens during less workload, while in the performance
mode, the fan is set to the same speed all the times.

Talking about the performance of CPU, we know that most of the other gaming
laptops relay on the same core i7-8750H processor. So, the primary objective was to
perform better in productivity task than the competitors. After my research, I came to
a conclusion that the system is performing according to the work load i.e. it’s a little
slower some time and a little faster at the other time. It means user can get all the
usual benefits of the core i7-8750H.

Terms of Service

The hardware products of Dell may come with a 90-day, 1-years, 2-years, 3-years or
4-years other limited warranty. This Alienware m15 gaming laptop comes with a 24
months warranty period. Dell provides a Premium support plus services where you
get a better gaming experience with 24×7 support *, PC optimization, predicative
issue detection and many more. The next support provided by Dell is premium
support where you get re solutions of several issues. This service is available 24×7.

GANT CHART:
A Gantt chart is a simple horizontal bar chart that depicts project task against a calendar. Each
bar represents a name project task. The task is listed vertically in the left-hand column. The
horizontal axis is the calendar timeline. Figure 3 illustrates a phase level faint chart (Bentley,
2007, p. 125).

Gantts Chart offers the advantage of clearly showing overlapping task, that is, task that can be
performed at the same time. The bars can be shaded to clearly indicate percentage completion
and project progress. The figure demonstrates which phases are ahead and behind schedule at a
glance (Bentley, 2007, p. 125).
