Social Theories of Race and Class

METAPHYSICS 2

Summary

Charles Mills succeeds in highlighting the crucial issues, in mainstream philosophy, related to

black experience throughout his book “Blackness”. Ralph Ellison had once made the mention of

black invisibility, which has now turned out to be of substantial relevance to the field of

philosophy. The concept of whiteness attached with demographics has been quite a source of

complaint for the racial minorities. Mills claim that the recent history of the west has been

devoid of any philosophical theory detailing and pertaining to the centrality of race.

Mills had made the bold claim of social ontology of race extrapolating from the European

expansion that demands fields such as philosophy for theorizing upon the matter. The writer

explores the contrasts that result from the black and white modernity. The black Jewish relations

and other conspiracy theories about race point towards the white policies of supremacy.

Parallels are drawn between positions taken by people over the questions raised of a

racial nature and the status of ethical values from the metaphysical perspective. The writer seems

to expand upon the latter ethical positionality of metaphysics upon such matters involving racial

discrimination.

The extraction of a variety of views from the metaphysical perspective of racial stances

that parallel the major meta-ethical concepts in the field of literature are quite possible. The

conclusion that race is unreal , relative or subjective is often held by those who observe the

position held by realists wrongheadedly. All of these views have been formed mistakenly, the

writer seems to claim.

METAPHYSICS 3

Racial categorization can be done in many ways : ancestry, experience, self awareness,

culture, self identification and many more. There is a consideration of around 10 cases of such

transgression due to racial extremism which contains a person who has attached himself to some

of these conditions emotionally, which tends to set our intuitions in motion and force us to claim

that race is indeed constructed due to social reasons. This view substantially differs from

relativism as far as being wrong about the race you belong to.
