Activity 4.

1:

You shall go to your respective groups. There should only be three members in every
group. You shall think of various contexts (i.e. human situations, conditions, events,
phenomena) happening in the international, national, and regional settings. To facilitate
your discussion, you will use the PESTLE Approach (Political-Economic-Social-
Technological-Legal-Educational Approach). The group output is a list of contexts.

Contexts Issues Ethical Issues Moral Dilemma

Political
- We have a lot of issue regarding politics but the greatest issue is corruption of
politicians in the Philippines. The Philippines is getting a more corrupt and less
democratic state under President Rodrigo Duterte and we can’t deny that.
Growing corruption and faltering democratic institutions are endemic problems
for most emerging market economies. It's what keeps them from achieving
sustainable growth and escaping poverty. The Philippines is a wealthy country
both in natural resources and human resources. But it remains an emerging
country since the government isn’t using these resources in a proper way. Now
this problem in politics isn’t just because of the politicians but the voters as well.
They are not using their rights properly because they don’t know how to vote for
the right people, nor do they hold the politicians up to a high standard. They feel
helpless against the system. Filipino have this attitude that they vote for the
same people and families in power for decades without even considering other
candidates that really has the potential to improve the system here in our
country. They keep on saying that they want change when in fact they keep
electing the same people into the congress. So as a result, politicians nowadays
think that their government work is not important, and that only their campaign
performances are crucial in winning the election. Also, most of the voters here in
the Philippines are not aware about the separation of powers and responsibilities
among the three branches of the government. Politics is indeed dirty here in our
country because politicians are not responsible of their positions.
Educational
- Here in the Philippines, there are a lot of factors that affects the educational
system and also the education of the Filipino people. He factors are: Quality of
Education, Budget for Education, Affordability of Education, and Drop-out Rate.
The third prevalent issue of educational system in the Philippines is the
affordability of education. Since most of the Filipino people don’t have sufficient
money and financial capacity to enroll their children in a school and most
especially, during tertiary education where almost all the Colleges and
Universities require tuition fees. A big disparity in educational achievements is
evident across various social groups. The socioeconomically sufficient students
have immensely higher drop-out rates in the elementary level because their
families can’t afford another level which is secondary level, since it also requires
funds for fees like transportation, allowance and other miscellaneous fees. In
tertiary levels, most freshmen students came from relatively well-off families
since they can afford the education meanwhile, the financially unstable families
chooses to stop and don’t pursue college. So we can observe and conclude that
the affordability of education here in the Philippines is a major impact in the
education of Filipinos.
