Has the Philippines undergone the demographic transition? Why or why not?

"

The demographic transition of a particular country depends on the people who are living
on it. Considering the factors that may affect the population growth such like the social
and culture, death rates, birth rates, availability of family planning, education, lack of
knowledge, teen age pregnancy and immigration.
The Philippines is currently in Stage 2 of the Demographic Transition Model. The death
and birth rates are declining and is resulting in rapid growth.
According to Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. 2020, the population density of the Philippines
is high, but the distribution of the population is uneven. Parts of Metro Manila have a
population density that is more than 100 times that of some outlying areas such as the
mountainous area of northern Luzon. The country’s birth rate remains significantly
higher than the world average, as well as the average for the Southeast Asian region.
The Philippines is also among the world’s fastest urbanizing countries, and overcrowded cities
present their own challenges. With some 47 percent of the population living in urban areas,
compared with 31 percent in Thailand and 16 percent in Cambodia, the country has more than
200 urban areas that have populations of more than 50,000, notes the country’s Commission on
Population (POPCOM). (POPULATION REFERENCE BUREAU, 2003)

Location type also can be a factor of demography transition as people from rural areas tends to
move to the cities largely due to economic considerations, job opportunities and they find cities as
attractive place.

In the case of the Philippines, while fertility rates have dropped slowly,
the population growth rate for the country has remained high
compared to its neighbors in Asia. (Manila Times, 2016)

Conclusion
Based on the data gathered the Philippines undergone the
demographic transition because it is said in one of the article that the
Philippines is in the stage 2 of the demographic transition model which
pertains rapid decrease of death rate while the birth rate remains high.
Improvement in medical care brought a big impact on it. For instance,
the factors affecting demographic rate proofs that in a long run of time
there is a transition in the Philippines in terms of demography.
