Ex-Congressman Pens First Novel

Former Calvert Parish Pastor Father Peter Daly Plays Key Role
By Dick Myers
Editor
Political junkies will instantly
recognize the name David Bonior.
He served in the U.S. House of
Representatives for 26 years (Jan-
uary 3, 1977 to January 3, 2003).
Bonior was Democratic Whip in
the House from 1991 to 2002,
during which time Democrats
were in both the majority (1991–
1995) and minority (1995–2002),
making him the third and second
highest-ranking Democrat in the
House, respectively.
During his time in Congress Bo-
nior represented Michigan’s 12th
Congressional District, so he may
not be familiar to local residents.
Yet, since the early 1980’s Bonior
has maintained a home in Calvert
County in the Port Republic com-
munity of Scientist’s Cliffs in ad-
dition to one in DC.
While in Congress, he traveled
a lot, including of course back to
his home district, but even then,
he did spend time on the shores of
the Chesapeake Bay. “I’ve been
sort of down here in this commu-
nity, now more permanently than
when I was in the Congress,” he
told The County Times.
“I have my official residence
still in the city. We have a little
apartment for a night, but this
is where we’ve been for the past
year. And I’d say over the last 10
years, we’ve sort of split our time
