EXAMPLE USES
Express future plans, threats, warnings, promises or to convince someone about something.
Si estudias mucho, sacarás buenas notas.
For the future phrase we mostly use the simple future with will, but you can also use the
simple future with going to or a modal verb: can, might, should, or must.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
WILL
GOING TO
If I don't have to go to work tomorrow, I am going to visit my parents.
DOG
MIGHT
SHOULD
MUST
The order of the two sentences that make up the conditional structure can be changed. If we
start with the (If) condition we will separate them with a comma. If we start with the phrase
that expresses the result, it is not necessary to put the comma.
The first conditional is used to express future plans, threats, warnings, promises or to
convince someone about something.
of the weather is fine tomorrow, we will go cycling.
Si mañana hace buen tiempo, iremos en bici.
Hay la posibilidad de que mañana haga buen tiempo. Si esta condición se cumple los dos
chicos irán en bici.
Existe la posibilidad de que esta niña toque las cosas de su hermana. Si esto sucede el
resultado será que su hermana se enfadará.
Possessive pronouns
Possessive pronouns are a type of pronouns (a word that substitutes a name or noun) that
indicates possession, that is, to whom something belongs. In Spanish we can translate it as
mine, yours, theirs, mine, yours, theirs, etc.
To use a possesive pronoun we will have as reference the personal pronoun to which the
owner corresponds.
I Mine
You Yours
He his
She Her
It Its1
We Ours
You Yours
They theirs
The possessive pronouns vary according to the holder and not according to what is owned:
In Spanish "the dog" is a masculine noun, therefore we use the pronoun "his". In English
we use "hers", the possessive pronoun that corresponds to the possessor, in this case, the
girl, and not to the possessed element "the dog".
In Spanish, "la gata" is a feminine noun, therefore "hers" is used. However, in English we
refer to the owner and not what is owned, therefore, we use "his".
In this case we have used a possessive adjective and after "my" we need to put the noun
"pencil".
I have a pen. This pen is mine.
In this case we have used a possessive pronoun and we should not put the name after
"mine".
