Good morning, I’m Candela and today I´m going to talk

about AIDS and HIV. In Spanish they are called SIDA and
VIH. HIV is a virus that attacks cells of the immune
system, which is our body's natural defense against all
diseases. It basically protects us. The virus destroys a type
of white cell of the immune system and makes copies of
itself inside these cells. AIDS is a set of symptoms caused
by HIV. A person is said to have AIDS when their immune
system is too weak to fight infection and they develop
certain symptoms and illnesses. AIDS is the last stage of
HIV, when the infection is very advanced and, if it is not
treated, it will cause death.
HIV is spread when infected blood, infected semen, or
infected vaginal fluids enter a person's body. Since
symptoms can be very mild at first, people who have
contracted HIV may not know they are infected. And you
can spread HIV to other people without knowing it.
In the first 2 to 4 weeks after getting HIV, you may feel
some fever, pain, and discomfort. These symptoms are
similar to those of the flu. But in general, people who get
the infection feel healthy for a long time. It can take 10
years or more for HIV infection to manifest symptoms,
and even longer for those taking antiviral medications.
Therefore, regular HIV testing is essential, especially if
you have had unprotected sex or shared needles.
AIDS symptoms are tiredness and dizziness, headaches,
fever, or night sweats for a long time, swollen glands in
the throat, feeling short of breath, bumps on the skin or
in the mouth, bleeding from the mouth or nose, and skin
rashes.
The piece of news that I am going to talk about is that in a
few cases around the world they have tried an AIDS
treatment, which has no cure, and it has worked. The first
man cured of AIDS was from Berlin, the second case
cured was in London, and today in Spain there are already
six persons who have been cured by this method. In Spain
today there are between 140 and 170 thousand people
infected with AIDS, so this figure represents a very low
percentage, but in any case, having worked for a few
people means that we are closer to making it work for all
these people suffering from this horrible transmission
disease.
Regarding the situation we are having right now with the
famous virus, COVID19, and realizing the importance of
health services, I think we should be very happy when
pieces of news like this appear.
We must invest public money in services of vital
importance, and I think healthcare is the most important
of them. If we do that, we can get out of this and many
other diseases, but for this we must all collaborate
together, doctors, scientists, the government and in
general all society.
