7. Sinopsis

Curriculum Foundations, Principles, and Issues was written by Allan C. Ornstein and
Francis P. Hunkins, the professor of education in America who have involved in curriculum
planning and produced various books and articles for educational journals. This seventh edition of
the book has been revised to improve the layout with updated contents. This book is essential for
educational personnel who involved in curriculum planning, development, implementation and
evaluation such as teachers, supervisors, and administrators because it comprehensively
addressed the foundations, principles and issues of curriculum. I found that the curriculum tips
given in each chapter are very helpful to understand the content in practical way and the video
reference is useful for extended information related to the topic. At the beginning of each chapter,
learning outcome is provided to give the clear idea of what can be achieved after reading that
particular chapter and it is ended by giving the conclusion and discussion questions to let the
readers engage with the elaborated content.

8. Nilai Pengetahuan / Pengajaran

This book provides a lot of insight into the actions and approaches that can be taken as a
teacher to deals with the challenges of the 21st century. Teachers need to focus on
implementation of meaningful and engaging lessons that learners acquire them to master skills,
knowledge and understanding. Teachers' understanding of curriculum design, curriculum
development and curriculum implementation enables teachers to plan, select and produce
teaching that meets the needs of students based on the content of the subject and fulfill the
curriculum requirements. During the lesson planning, teachers intend to design and implement
either to choose subject-centered design, learner-centered design or problem-centered design. A
lesson that is organized to explicitly engage students with their existing ideas and actively
explores new concepts through authentic inquiry can help students to change what they already
know, make connections, and integrate this new knowledge.

9. Aplikasi Ilmu Dalam Organisasi / P&P

In order to create effective learning, teachers should not always be dominant. Students
should be given the opportunity to determine the curriculum design they want and the culture in
the classroom. Therefore, those students are not bored and more responsible for their own
learning. Teachers can facilitate and guide students to use their own experiences to gain the new
one through activities and learning content. As to develop student’s motivation toward their
learning, teachers can use nontechnical-nonscientific approaches to through cooperative learning.
Students are actively involve during the learning process. Teachers can suggest deliberative
process whereby the educators make known their ideas to the students and together plan an
educational journey, constantly giving the feedback and adjusting this plan to avoid chaos during
learning process. By then, teachers can evaluate the student’s discussion regarding the problems
given. It is not an easy process, but with the teachers' understanding and knowledge, this can be
done very well.
