I. Introduction:

Nowadays, one thousand seven hundred sixty-one HIV cases

and five hundred seventy-eight AIDS cases became higher than
last year’s cases. The Department of Health has recorded one
thousand plus AIDS cases from January 1984 to September
2002. Most of these cases involved persons aged 20-39 years
old.

AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a disease

of the human immune system caused by the human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This condition progressively
reduces the effectiveness of the immune system and leaves
individuals susceptible to opportunistic infections and tumors.

AIDS is now epidemic. Although treatments for AIDS and

HIV can slow the course of the disease, there is no known cure
or vaccine.

Getting an HIV diagnosis can feel like the worst news in the
world. It is common to feel anger, fear, confusion, shock,
depression, or other painful emotions. Even after you’ve known
for some time and think you are coming to terms with the news,
it may suddenly hit you over again.
Louise Zapanta’s Property

You are not alone. About one million people in the

Philippines are HIV positive, and approximately one in four
people die each year.

II.Objectives:

1. To know what is AIDS all about

2. To let other people know the symptoms of HIV.

3. To know the positive and negative effects.

4. To know the side effects of HIV positive.

5. To know if AIDS is preventable.

6. To be able to know the vaccines.

7. To know the consequences of having AIDS.

Louise Zapanta’s Property

8. To know the emotions on having HIV.

9. To let people have the campaign system against AIDS.

10. To be aware of having AIDS.

III. Statement of the Problem:

These questions are made to guide you, “what is ADIS all about”.
What are its causes, effects, preventions? And who, when, where do it
attacks? It is necessary to know what HIV positive is all about, to be
aware at your body health risk.

2. What is AIDS disease?

3. Who is risk for getting HIV?

7. How long can people live with AIDS?

8. Who is responsible in getting rid of HIV?

9. What is the emotion on having AIDS?

10. How many people died having AIDS?

IV. Formulated Hypothesis

These questions are made to give you information all about AIDS. It
is important to know everything about AIDS, so you know how to
prevent or get risks over HIV virus.

1. What vaccine can prevent HIV infection?

2. How is AIDS pass from one person to another?

3. How is HIV spread during unprotected sex?

4. What is being done to keep the blood supply and other blood products
came from HIV?

5. Who needs to test for the HIV positive virus?

6. What is passed during kissing?

Louise Zapanta’s Property

7. Why is it important to know about AIDS?

8. Who is at risk on having HIV virus?

9. Who is responsible in getting rid of AIDS disease?

10. What is passed during unprotected sexual intercourse?

V. Basic Assumption:

1. There is no vaccine to prevent HIV infection. Researchers are

working to development of a vaccine. Vaccines in development are
being tested to find out if they work.

2. HIV is spread when infected blood, semen, vaginal fluids, or breast

feed milk gets into the blood stream of another person through;
having sex without using a condom and sharing vitamins and
medicines.
Louise Zapanta’s Property

3. By not using condom or by having unprotected sexual intercourse.

Using a latex barrier, like condom or dental dam, reduces the risk
of HIV infection.

4. All blood and organ donations are screened for HIV. In addition,
all blood products, such as clotting factor, undergo heat treatment
and at least one other process to kill the virus.

5. All humans are necessary to have a daily test to update if you are
positive or negative HIV virus.

6. There is nothing pass through kissing, HIV virus is only pass

through one person to another by having unprotected sex
intercourse.

7. To be aware that AIDS disease is harmful, it is a life-threatening

disease. No one is exempted. Anyone can get HIV, and it is
preventable.

8. All humans are at risks on having AIDS disease. And everyone is

the one who needs to get rid of it. You should know what vaccine
you should use to cure on having HIV virus.
Louise Zapanta’s Property

9. Everyone is needed to get rid of that virus. AIDS attacks anyone,

no one is exempted, and everyone should stop it from attacking,
and we should keep it away from our body.

10. During unprotected sex the HIV virus is pass, when it

becomes larger it turns to AIDS disease. When anal sex is made
you should use condoms or injections to protect your body.

VIII. Scope and Limitations:

AIDS: The Modern Day Epidemic

AIDS, above all illness in the modern day, it is now epidemic.

AIDS is a disease caused by the HIV virus. It attacks human immune
system, and a life-threatening infectious cancer.

AIDS is transmitted by a human infected by the disease; by having

unprotected sexual intercourse is one of it. The disease cannot be
transmitted with shaking hands or sharing with an infected person.
Louise Zapanta’s Property

The disease is needed to be tested or counseled like HIV test

information, pretest counseling and post-test counseling. These tests can
detect HIV virus and can develop a vaccine for it.

It has many risks but it has also reductions just like; when having a
sex use condom; don’t use drugs to reduce injection drug use; and you
need to have medical care.

AIDS case definition has HIV positive and negative infection. If

you are infected you can have a chronic ulcer and chronic intestinal
cancer diseases.

Half of the 34 million people living with AIDS worldwide

are woman. In contrast, women in the Philippines are less likely to
be infected than man. People with AIDS also have an increased
risk of developing various such as cervical cancer and cancers of
the immune system known as lymphomas.

Patients with HIV infection have substantially increased

incidence of several cancers. This is primarily due to co-infection
with a monogenic DNA virus, especially Epstein - Barr virus
(EBV)

AIDS patients often develop opportunities infections that

present with non-specific symptoms, especially low-grade fevers
and weight loss. CMV (cytomegalovirus) can cause colitis, a
described above, and CMV retinitis can cause blindness.

Many factors affect the rate of progression. These include

factors that influence the body’s ability to defend against HIV such
as the infected person immune function. Older people have weaker
immune systems, and therefore have greater risk of rapid disease
progression than younger people.

All we should do is to remember HIV virus and AIDS

disease is PREVENTABLE.

X. Recommendation or Suggestions:

1. The hospitals obligation to provide medical care.

2. HIV test for patients: Informed consent to the test.

3. Normalize HIV pre and post-testing.

4. Increase Cultural and Media exposure of people living with HIV

and AIDS.

5. Be protected during sexual intercourse.

6. Avoid using illegal drugs.

7. Don’t have sex with a person having HIV virus.

8. DOH should take care for HIV positive person.

9. DOH should give free medications for AIDS positive.

Louise Zapanta’s Property

10. DOH should have a program to risk reduction for a person

with AIDS.

XI. Conclusion:

AIDS does not discriminate caste, creed, race, religion,

educational or social status. Prevention of AIDS is our joint
responsibility. Education had awareness is the only weapon in our hand.

The small matter of proving that the virus caused the disease still
remains. And it remains for two very good reasons; there is no valid
evidence that the virus causes AIDS, and there is an enormous weight of
evidence to show that it does not.
Louise Zapanta’s Property

AIDS is now pandemic. Although treatments for AIDS and HIV

can slow the cause of the disease, there is no known cure or vaccine.

Let us accept the challenge to fight against AIDS. We must support

and care for the people with HIV or AIDS with compassion and
understanding.

The nature and format of deliberation of the panel could not allow
the in-depth scientific argumentation that is necessary to resolve many
of the differences over scientific issues of a fundamental nature. AIDS is
PREVENTABLE.
