Place: Fire Rescue Station Kajang

Introduction about the place:

Malaysian Fire Services was formed in 1883 with the 15 member of the Volunteer Fire
Service in Selangor. Through the Federated Malay State Treaty, the Fire Service were handed
over to the state government under the administration of the Municipal Council or the Rural
Board. On 1st of January 1976, except fire service in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Malacca which
were latter on 1st of January 1977. The state fire services in Peninsular Malaysia were
centralized as the Fire Services Department of Malaysia at federal level and placed under the
Ministry Housing and Local Government.

The headquarter of Fire Rescue station Kajang is in Hulu Langat. In Fire rescue station
the division group of fire rescuer is divide into 3 group: group A, group B, and group C. We
interview group B fire rescuer. Every group have 8 fire rescuer on duty, and every day will take
turn to change group.

Activity / Tentative project

At 3:30p.m, we go to Fire Rescuer Station. First, we are giving food and beverage to fire
rescuer to appreciate their sacrifice time to our country. Later we take group photo. We are
implementing Q&A Questions within 30 minute for further information. After, we visiting the Fire
Rescuer Station. Head of fire rescuer introduce function of LFRT and FRT, EMRS (Emergency
Medical Rescue Service) and explain about fire rescuer equipment and function. After 1 hours,
we end our project.

This is what we learned:

After visiting the fire rescue station, we learned a lot of helpful information. From the
trip, we understood the importance of community helpers in our lives. We were briefed by the
fire officer on how to contact the fire authorities in case of an emergency by dialing 999. The
officer also explained the whole process of fire elimination. We were made to visit the vehicles
that fireman used during the state of emergency. There are different types of fire engine
vehicle such as LFRT and FRT, EMRS (Emergency Medical Rescue Service). Every different types
of fire engine vehicle have different function and purpose.

In daily fire rescuer is not just about put out fire, they will be go rounding area check any
emergency case happen need help. People use to call fire rescuer for help just to put out fire
and did not do any action to extinguish the fire, then fire quickly rise up, and just waiting for fire
rescuer put out fire. It seem that people do not have any basic awareness about extinguish fire.
People also use to call fire rescuer for help catch animal that went into house. Actually it is not
fire rescuer job, should call the department of environment if need help from fire rescuer,
department of environment will send fire rescuer for help.

The trip gave us an idea about what to do and how important it is to use our presence of
mind when a crisis situation like this occurs. We also understood the importance of fireman and
how difficult it would be if these people are not there to help us when such a need arises.

What are the problem faced during the execution of the program?

We feel that are very nervous, do not know how to ask question. We are nervous use
Malay language to communicate with fire rescuer. We do not prepare enough question for the
questionnaire session. We worry about use of the budget will over our limit. But thank to Teacher
Fatin’s and our group member Goh Qiu Qi’s mother for sponsor money and provide food and
beverage for our minor project activity. We are inexperience in facing stranger especially when
in an unfamiliar environment. We are curious about the function equipment but not dare to ask,
thank for teacher ask for permission and fire rescuer provide us further information about their
job.

Overall we feel that the project:

We felt that the trip is a successful project as we gained a lot of information and
understood the roles of fire rescuer. From the trip, we feel that fire rescuer are great because
they are willing to sacrifice time and even precious lives for the people. We are sincerely
grateful to them for making such contributions to us.
 We are grateful because this activity can go smoothly with the approval of the officer. In
addition, we also appreciate Teacher Fatin's assistance during the trip.
