FINCO Reads Interactive Reading Corner Proposal

Introduction FINCO Reads Interactive Reading Corners are specially designated corners
in the classrooms where students access variety of reading and authentic
materials in a cosy and encouraging environment to help to increase the
interest in reading English materials. These materials include but not
limited to children books, pamphlets, brochure, newspaper clippings,
students’ writing, etc.

Aim FINCO Reads Interactive Reading Corners is aimed to offer a wide range of
literacy experiences to the students. This helps the students to have a
special place to develop reading habit and merge as independent readers.

Objectives 1. To help low proficient students in reading English materials by


providing material according to students’ abilities
2. To encourage reading beyond curriculum needs and towards reading
for leisure by introducing a range of reading genres to students.
3. To promote literacy and reading as a valued skill by introducing
reading strategies in teaching and learning.
4. To provide opportunities for interaction with positive role models
using English by the teachers and volunteers.
5. To inculcate a healthy reading habit amongst students in the long run
by doing the above.

Target Group Year 4 pupils

Selection of reading
materials The reading corner will include diverse range of reading materials
including children story books, dictionaries, children encyclopaedia, xxx
student magazine, word charts and xxx boardgames. The genres selected
for students include fantasy, historical fiction, science fiction, mystery and
folk tales.
