Self-directed Module in Mathematics 2 Quarter 1

Week 7. In this module you should be familiar with
the zero property of multiplication. It is important to
understand this property as you will be needing it in
the succeeding lessons in math.

II. Objectives

Illustrates the zero property of multiplication and

applies it in appropriate and relevant situations.

III. Vocabulary List

Number sentence - expressed using number and

mathematical symbols.
Product – is the result of multiplying numbers.
Addition sentence – is a mathematical expression
that shows two or more numbers added together
and their sum.

IV. Pretest

Complete the number sentence.

1. x 53 = 0
2. 76 x = 0
3. 109 x 0 =
4. 50 x = 0
5. X 15 = 0

V. Learning Activities

What can you say if we multiply a number by 0 or if

0 is multiplied to any number?

Any number multiplied by zero is equal to zero (0).

This is called the zero property of multiplication.

Look at the 3 boxes below.

How many boxes are there? 3

Do you see anything in each box? No

Write a multiplication sentence for this. ( 3 x 0 )

What number do we multiply by 3? ( zero )
the number of box /number of groups the box contains nothing

When we multiply 0 by a number, what will be our

product? The product is zero.

Multiplications tells you how many times to add a

certain number, thus, multiplying by 0 means that you
have nothing to add because 0 means nothing.

So, 3 x 0 means 0 + 0 + 0 = 0
You get 0 because you’re still not adding anything.

For example:
Addition sentence: 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 =0
Multiplication sentence: 4 x 0 = 0
