1. The two overarching perspectives is
 The historical perspective (1911–1950s) includes three viewpoints—
classical, behavioral, and quantitative.
historical perspective has three view point, there are Classica
viewpoint,
behavioral viewpoint, Quantitative viewpoints.
 The contemporary perspective (1960s–present) also includes three
viewpoints— systems, contingency, and quality-management.

3. Scientific management emphasized the scientific study of work methods to
improve the productivity of individual workers. Two of its chief proponents
were Frederick W. Taylor and the team of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth.
4. The behavioral viewpoint emphasized the importance of understanding
human behavior and of motivating employees toward achievement .Study
jobs and determine which people are best suited to specific jobs, Identify the
psychological conditions under which employees do their best work, Devise
management strategies to influence employees to follow management’s
interests.
5. Management science focuses on using mathematics to aid in problem
solving and decision making. Management science is called operations
research. Management science stresses the use of rational, science-based
techniques and mathematical models to improve decision making and
strategic planning.

7. An example of the contingency viewpoint in action is a manager facing a


situation with an employee who regularly shows up late to work. A manager
could have a written protocol for this situation in which there is only one
option: give the employee notice. Under the contingency viewpoint,
however, the manager may decide to better understand the situation by
talking to the employee about why s/he is late to work and then deciding on
the most effective and appropriate course of action. The value in this lies in
the information the manager acquires about the employee: maybe there are
extenuating circumstances that can be relatively easy to work around. In this
case, the contingency approach allows the employee to keep her/his job and
saves the manager from going through the time and trouble to dismiss one
employee and hire another.

9. Why should I adopt a total quality management viewpoint?

 Because, I want continuous quality improvement. It also has benefits


such as like training employees to improve productivity, and to provide
maximum satisfaction to the customers.
10. What are three roles I could play as a manager in a learning organization?
 Three roles that managers must perform to build a learning
organization are:
 1 A manager who is committed to always looking to gain new
knowledge.
 2 A manager driven by making an impact
 3 A manager who can summarize valuable ideas into an action plan.
