February 21-24, 2011

Dear Families,
We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend (Yay, for warmer weather again this week).
Everyone was very excited about outside time last week! And it looks like we’ll enjoy more of it
this week. We’ll continue working on Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes. We’ve had a lot of fun
with Nursery Rhymes and even had a few laughs hearing silly nursery rhymes (new spin on
some familiar ones). We even noticed a few acting out The 3 Little Pigs outside in the Gas-N-Go
Mart. I’m amazed at how quick the older ones are picking up on rhymes. We’ll keep working
with the younger ones on reciting some of the familiar nursery rhymes and filling in the blank
when leaving off the end of the rhyme.
At home:
You can teach your child some nursery rhymes. For 4 and 5 year olds, have your child listen for
the rhyming words while you recite a nursery rhyme. In the car, you can try to come up with as
many words that rhyme as you can (real or nonsense words)! Below is a silly song we’ll be using
to work on finding rhyming words:
Higglety Pigglety pop! (knees)
The dog has eaten the mop. (cheese)
The pig’s in a hurry;
The cat’s in a flurry.
Higglety Pigglety pop! (knees) (replace underline words with some of the following:
knees-cheese; leg- egg; horn- corn; bear-pear)
