1 About configuration
This document describes the configuration procedures required to enable the CSU 502
controller to control and monitor a power system and associated components. The
instructions only describe the configuration through the web interface. For information on
configuring the CSU 502 controller with the PC and local interface, see CSU 502
Configuration instructions.

Each procedure is described in the following way:

• Feature purpose: a brief description of the feature to be configured.

• Steps: the steps required to configure the feature.
• Reference: references to other information which may be of interest.

1.1 Overview of system configuration

The CSU 502 controller is used to control and monitor power systems and their
components. A typical power system includes rectifiers, batteries, and DC distribution to
the load. The CSU 502 also provides alarm monitoring, AC measurement, and logging
functions.

The power system is configured when it is installed. The system may also require
reconfiguring during its lifetime, for example, if components are added or removed, or if
the physical configuration of the system is rearranged.

1.2 Web interface

The web interface allows access to the full range of configuration and supervision
functions. The web interface is accessed with a standard browser and navigated with a
normal keyboard and mouse. To use the web interface, both the CSU 502 controller and
the PC must be connected to the same IP network.

1.3 Connecting a CSU 502 controller to an IP network

The CSU 502 controller can be connected to an IP network by using an optional web
communication board. To enable the communication, the network parameters “IP
Address”, “Subnet” and “Gateway” needs to be set correctly via menu point “3.4.4.2 Web
IP”.

2 Configuration with web interface, Controller CSU 502 About configuration

1.4 Using the web interface of the CSU 502 controller

1.4.1 Introduction

If the CSU 502 controller is connected to an IP network with an optional Web

communication board, it is possible to communicate with it by using a PC with a web
browser.

For proper operation the PC must meet the following requirements:

• JavaVM (Java Virtual Machine) version compatible with the version v1.6.0_10
• IE 6.0
• Disabled JavaScript filter in the antivirus software
• Enabled port 3001 for HTTP protocol access

1.4.2 Starting the communication

Step 1 Connect the PC to the same network with the CSU 502 controller.

Step 2 Open an internet browser and connect to the IP address defined in the “3.4.4.2
Web IP” menu.

Step 3 When the CSU 502 login page loads, enter the account name and password,
and click “Submit”. The default credentials are:

Account: User
Password: 1688

Step 4 The web interface is now open and it is possible to change the configuration and
setting if necessary.

2 Configuration

2.1 Configuring rectifiers

The web interface can be used to monitor rectifier information, such as output voltage,
current, status and AC input voltage. The following rectifier parameters can be configured
through the web interface.

Parameter Explanation

CL Current limit for the rectifier’s maximum output current.

HVSD High voltage shut down setting. The rectifier shuts down
when the rectifier’s DC output voltage is higher than
HVSD setting value.

Fix Volt Control the DC output voltage of the rectifier.

Eff.Mgt Enable/disable the energy saving functionality. When

enabled, CSU 502 controller switches rectifiers on or off
to improve system efficiency (only Digital series rectifiers
are supported).

SMR Max Current The maximum output current of the rectifier at float
charge voltage.

Step 1 Go to Main Menu → Rectifier to access the rectifier settings.

Step 2 Modify the parameters.

Step 3 Click “Set” to confirm.

2.2 Configuring batteries

2.2.1 Battery parameters

The following battery parameters can be adjusted through the web interface.

Parameter Explanation

Floating Voltage Regulated cell voltage of batteries on correct level

defined by battery manufacturer. It is also the system’s
normal operating voltage.

Equalizing Voltage Regulated voltage used to charge batteries and to

equalize the voltage of its individual cells.

Battery Capacity The total rating capacity of the batteries.

Max. Charge I Maximum current for charging the battery.

4 Configuration with web interface, Controller CSU 502 Configuration

Step 1 Go to Main Menu → Rectifier to access the battery settings.

Step 2 Modify the parameters.

Step 3 Click “Set” to confirm.

2.2.2 Battery test

The following battery test parameters can be configured through the web interface.

Parameter Explanation

Failure V Battery failure voltage setting.

Discharge I Battery discharge current setting.

Lost capacity Lost capacity setting.

Periodic Test Enable/disable the periodic cycle setting and the

periodic battery test interval.

Periodic Timer The time until the next battery test.

Test Timer The remaining time of an ongoing battery test.

Step 1 Go to Main Menu → Battery → Battery Test to access the battery test settings.

Step 2 Modify the parameters.

Step 3 Click “Set” to confirm.

2.2.3 Temperature compensation

The following temperature compensation parameters can be configured through the web
interface.

Parameter Explanation

Temp. Compensation Enable/disable the battery temperature compensation.

Coefficient Temperature coefficient threshold setting.

Reference Temperature Reference temperature setting.
