Make Them Feel Alive

Promote awareness, compassion, education and support

I. Discussion of the Millennium Development Goal

The basis for this campaign is the 6th Millennium Development Goal: “Combat HIV/AIDS,
Malaria, and Other Diseases”. To further elaborate, below are the two targets of MDG #6:
a. Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS.
b. Halt and begin to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases.

II. Background
It is believed that sexual transmission is the main cause of HIV infection. However, the
injection that drug users use mostly in Asia can increase the spread of HIV and AIDS in the
event of frequent sharing of needles. The existing increase of unprotected sex, multiple sex
partners and sharing of needles are the reasons for the increase also of awareness and
understanding, not only with the concerned individuals but also in all sectors of the community.
While, Malaria is the eight main cause of death in the Philippines and with the heightened cases
of Malaria and tuberculosis it can affect the economic gains.

III. Rationale
With the growing number of victims of HIV/AIDS around the world (especially in the
Philippines) and the alarming situation in African countries plagued by malaria, it is needless to
say that there is a need to develop a campaign that would educate and raise the awareness of
the society regarding the said diseases.

IV. Target Audience/s

Generally, the campaign aims to “sympathize” to the victims of such diseases,
and make the society realize that the victims are still human which needs, compassion,
understanding, and support. It also aims to educate them about the diseases.
• Call Center Agents. Most of HIV/AIDS victims in the country nowadays are call center
agents, probably, because of their lifestyle. Needless to say, they are one of the target
audiences of the campaign. The campaign would educate them about HIV/AIDS, and
2

make them realize how painful and depressing it would have been if they would get
infected with an incurable virus.
• Health Workers. The campaign aims to encourage health workers, in the Philippines or
in other countries, to really help (in every way and the best that they can) those who
have been infected with HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. The campaign would
make them remember the true meaning of their profession.
• Government (National and Foreign). The campaign aims to encourage governments of
different nations to devise plans on how to reduce the number of victims of HIV/AIDS,
malaria, and other diseases, especially in African countries. Governments must also give
financial support in order to come up with a vaccine against the said diseases. By doing
this, many lives would surely be saved.
• Students. With this campaign, not only students, but also the academic community,
would be more educated on what is HIV/AIDS really is. Also, it would make them realize
the alarming reality that every minute, hundreds of lives are gone because of viral
diseases, malaria, and etc., especially the situation in African countries.

V. Script / Lyrics
Lift
Performed by: Shannon Noll

I know you’re hurting, feels like learning

‘Bout life the hard way and it ain’t working
Seems like forever, that you’ve been falling
It’s time to move on
Your life is calling, yeah

This was never meant to be the end

Close the book and start again

‘Cause I know how hard it can get

But you gotta lift, you gotta lift
And sometimes that’s how it is
But I know you’re stronger, stronger than this
You gotta lift, gotta lift
3

When you can feel your whole body’s aching

What’s left of you heart it won’t stop breaking
You gotta let go, you took a hit
Time to pick up now, move on from this
This was never meant to be the end
Close the book and start again

‘Cause I know how hard it can get

But you gotta lift, you gotta lift
And sometimes that’s how it is
But I know you’re stronger, stronger than this
You gotta…

Lift yourself up above all the hurt

Don’t give it, wipe your eyes and remember
You’re better than this
Let them know that they took
Their best shot and missed
C’mon and lift

‘Cause I know how hard it can get

But you gotta lift, you gotta lift
And sometimes that’s how it is
But I know you’re stronger, stronger than this
You gotta lift, you gotta lift

Pick up now…
Pick up now…

VI. Advocacy

Make Them Feel Alive

Promote awareness, compassion, education and support

The campaign will focus on promoting awareness and proper education about HIV/AIDS.
The proponents believe that the HIV/AIDS carriers are victims too. They should not be blamed
and criticized. Instead of discrimination, people should learn to give sympathy, support, and
compassion to the victims, and enrich their knowledge about the said disease/s.
The campaign, again, would want to educate and make the society realize that the
HIV/AIDS carrier are still people – who needs, compassion, support, and understanding,
especially during their hard times – to “make them feel alive”.
