Course Description/Course Contents


This course is focused on Standard methods of measurement: Preparation
of take off sheets. Specification: subject, nature and procedures of
specification writing. Measurement and specification for Principal items
of civil works:-, excavation and earthwork, masonry works, concrete
works, metal and wood works, glazing, steel work, roof and damp proofing
works, finishing works, sanitary and electrical installation works,
Demolition and alteration, site works etc.
Introduction to cost estimate: - Preliminary [approximate] estimate,
Detailed estimate.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the students should be able to;
- Understand different types of specification, know how to assure and
control quality of construction materials and construction products.
- Prepare specifications and BoQ for construction projects. Work out
quantity and types of material, manpower, and equipments needed for
construction projects.
- Determine rates for construction activities using detailed cost
estimation. Advice stake holders on preliminary and final costs of
projects.
- Prepare payment certificates and final accounts of projects.
