Empowering Women And Improving Lives
Special Guest of Honour

Honourable Commissioner For Women Affairs And Social Development
How We Started Our Mission
The Association Against Women Export is Ten Years Old!
The Association Against women Export's mission is to free women from the shackles of Human Traffickers,
To God be all the glory, great things he has done! Empower and Improve their Lives.
Ten years ago, I (Rosaline Osemetiti Okosun) shared my vision of starting a women’s group that will tackle the
exploitation of our women with some members of the Edo community discussion forum. Few members believed in my
vision and even though we never met in person, we worked together solely based on trust via e-mail to start the
Association Against Women Export (AAWE).
My people, the history of AAWE cannot be written without these founding team members, and they are: Prof. John
Ebohon, Mr. Hilary Evbayiro, Mr. Ben Imhonde, Mrs. Cynthia Amanyeiwe (nee Enahoro), Mrs. Joy Guobadia (nee
Olumese), Mrs. Sandra Frempong, Osa Aghator and Mr. Jay Edionwe. In 2002, Ms. Helen Wright, Mrs. Cynthia Omo-
Osagie and Ms. Tina Iyare joined us. Later on, Ms. Eki Osaghae joined the group in 2005.
What We Do
It was very rough from the onset, we had our differences but we still struggled on. As the years went by, people got very
busy with work, personal lives and there was no time to spare, so some of the foundation members left AAWE. Those of

The founder of the non-governmental organization pointed out further that the weapon to effectively combat the ugly trend of
human trafficking which ultimately metamorphoses into prostitution in foreign lands is lack of formal education.
She challenged the mothers to pay adequate attention to the movements of their daughters and to be very close to them,
pointing out that with such an intimate relationship between the mother and the child could yield positive result. She disclosed
further that unsuspecting young girls been lured into prostitution in Italy and other major cities of the world with a promise of
lucrative jobs abroad.
Dr. Rose Okosun appealed to the women to put the loan into their existing business to shore up their capital base or to start off
a new business all-together, advising against diverting the money into unproductive ventures. She informed the beneficiaries
of the loan that a monitoring team will from time to time visit their business to access their progress and advised them to keep
to the terms of the agreement.
It was revealed at the forum that two previous beneficiaries of the loan programme whose stores were burnt at Agbado market
have had their loan written-off by the founder of the Association, Dr Rose Okosun and a new loan given them.
