72 School Days Until the Final Exams!

Issue 6

Dear Y11s, Imagine we move 7 months into the future. It is a hot summer‘s day you have a had a fantas-
tic holiday and the words ‗coursework‘, ‗homework‘ and ‗revision‘ are just a distant memory. You walk into
the hall at Hyde Technology School for the very last time. As you hesitantly step over the wooden
floor, you take time to think back over the past 5 years of your life: the friends you have made, the
great trips you went on, those nagging teachers that once in a while showed that they were human too!
You are leaving much of that behind and hopefully taking good memories with you. But the one thing
that you can‘t leave behind, from the moment you walk into school and pick up your envelope, are those
GCSE results. Your GCSEs are with you for life. Every time you fill out an application form whether
you are working in a shop or applying to be managing director of a company, there is one section dedi-
cated to school achievement and GCSEs.

All of the staff hope that come 25th August we will be seeing cheers and tears of joy that the last 5
years of your life have been a success, that you have put in every ounce of effort to be the best you
can be and that you leave our school with your head held high and with pride in your hearts. Unfortu-
nately every year we have to watch some who leave with tears of regret and disappointment. Those who
just assumed they would get the grade. Those who thought they didn‘t need those GCSE things, who
were not prepared to make the effort. Deep down they all did care, they all wanted praise and to feel
proud of something they had achieved.

A GCSE is not just for August it is for life! Imagine yourself on that summer‘s day in August 2011 and
filling out that job application when you‘re 33. You want to be proud of what you achieved - not looking
back with regret or shame. Today is the trial run, the prediction of your future. Today, if you look at
those results and don‘t like what you see, there is still just enough time to make a change, by the 25th
August it will be too late.

This weeks role

models are Masuma
Khatun, Waheda
Parveen and Zahira
