Types of Media

BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR LEARNERS.

According to Techopedia, media is the plural form of medium, which (broadly speaking)
describes any channel of communication. This can include anything from printed paper to digital
data, and encompasses art, news, educational content and numerous other forms of information.
Wikipedia also defined media as the communication outlets or tools used to store and deliver
information or data. The term refers to components of the mass media communications industry,
such as print media, publishing, the news media, photography, cinema, broadcasting, and
advertising
Nowadays, media have been a very influential and powerful platform to express one’s
opinions or views may it be on political, economic, or societal issues. Many young people are
very engaged with these specifically with the social media because communication has been
made easier and more convenient. On the other hand, each media user should become well
educated and aware on how to be responsible on interacting with the people on the other side of
the media.
Media are classified into its types since today different forms are emerging.

TYPES OF MEDIA

1. PRINT MEDIA- This type of media is considered as the oldest form of media. It is the
most reliable and credible type of media since it must undergo to thorough process of proof
reading, editing, and revision when necessary. Any forms of printed media before
publishing must be carefully scrutinized their content, physical structure, and other
mechanics to ensure the accuracy and truthfulness of the material. Some examples of print
media are books, newspapers, magazines, brochures, leaflets, flyers and the like.

2. BROADCAST MEDIA- The term 'broadcast media' covers a wide range of different
communication methods that include television, radio, podcasts, blogs, advertising,
websites, online streaming and digital journalism. Broadcast media provides valuable
 information that can inform and educate and includes public service announcements, daily
news, weather forecasts, interviews, and documentaries. Broadcast media is also
recreational and includes reality television, situation and sketch comedies, movies, sports
and advertising.
3. FILM/CINEMA- It is one of the oldest platforms of media and people went to the theaters
to watch it but know people can watch movies at home via safelight and cable in HD
resolution.

4. VIDEO GAMES (DIGITAL GAMES)- It is only grown in youth with high dimensions
and more graphics. Games are the form of electronic media devices. Now games are also
available on mobile phones and people are easily accessible to them.

5. NEW MEDIA- New media refers to “those digital media that are interactive, incorporate
two-way communication and involve some form of computing,” Robert Logan writes in
his book Understanding New Media. Andrew Mark, 2019 also said that it is one of the
newest sources of media. The majority of the users prefer the internet to watch news
quickly. It is more fast and capable in compare to any other source of media. Internet
changes the world and connects the people also deliver the users to keep in touch with the
latest inventions and news. The Internet also gives you a chance to express your ideas all
over the globe.

therefore will believe

1. As a student who would like to stand against racial discrimination and social inequality, which
among the types of media will you use to convey your message? Explain your answer.

One of the best ways to eradicate racial discrimination is to learn to identify and to love your own
privilege. Ethnic advantages influenced the social, political and cultural environments. Checking your
privilege and using your privilege to eradicate institutional equality is one of the steps to stand against this
toxicity but I think digital media is the best tool that can be used to stand against racial discrimination and
social inequality because nowadays, digital medial especially the social media is the best way to gather the
attention of an individual. As we all know, social media is the most prevalent tool to gather information and
if we will use this platform as a tool to stand against racial discrimination, then netizens will be enlightened
with some information that they can use on how to treat other people well.

2. Embracing the new normal education we have today, which among the types of media is the most
effective way of learning? Explain your answer.
These pandemic changes everything. It changes the way we lived and how we perceived life.
It also changes the way of learning. We have nothing to do but to adapt and adjust the new of learning. In
my opinion and also based on my personal experience, I think the best possible way to cope up with this
new type of learning is to use printed media. One of which is what you call modular distance learning. In
which teachers will give the particular module to their parents. It includes different types of activities,
discussion and performance task students need to finish on their own. In this way of learning, students can
set their own time to answer and finish the tasks in module. In addition to that, students have their own
way of learning that possibly would work on their case but most importantly, this type of media is cost
efficient and the only expense that I can see is the accommodation of the parents when they will go to
school to get the modules.
