Purpose: Use the Design to Field tool in Leica Geo Office to create a
“Points, Lines and Areas” job for the System 1200 from a DXF file.

1. Prepare data in third party software

a. Create a DXF file of the Point, Line and Area data
i. Ensure the file contains 3D data if heights are important
ii. Minimise the number of individual line segments to speed up data
management in the field
iii. Export point numbers if they are required in the field
iv. Note the names of layers containing the data you require in the field
v. Save the file to your hard drive
2. Run Design to Field
Note – The Design to Field program creates a System1200 job from a DXF (or Land XML) data
file. Have the Compact Flash card inserted in your laptop or card reader before proceeding.

a. From the LGO side bar, select Tools

b. From the list of tools, select “Design to Field”
3. Create a System1200 job
a. To create a new System 1200 job, select New
i. Enter a name for the job
ii. Browse to the DBX directory on the CF card
iii. Select “Points, Lines and Areas Importer” from the “Importer Type”
drop down list
iv. Click OK
4. Select the appropriate importer
a. Choose DXF from the list of available importers. Hint – Select Manage to
edit the list of importers available in the drop down list
5. Import the data from DXF
a. Click on “Import”
b. Select Next
c. Browse to the DXF file and click Next
d. Select the DXF elements to import
i. Deselect any layers that are not required in the System1200 job
ii. Delete the point and line prefixes
iii. If you need points in the field as well as lines, check the box to
“import points on lines and polylines as separate entities)
iv. Select Next, then select Finish
6. Create the System1200 job
a. Select “Pack and GO!”
Note. On completion of the job creation process, all buttons are “greyed out”. Select Open or New
to start the process again, or Close to exit to LGO.
