1. (a) What is meant by EMF of a source?


(b) Distinguish between ideal and practical voltage source? Give examples?
(c) Distinguish between ideal and practical current sources? Give example?
(d) The internal resistance of a 12v − battery is a0.9 ohms. What will be its ter-
minal voltage when the current drawn from the battery is 2 Amps.[4+4+4+4]

2. Using Thevenin’s theorem, calculate the magnitude and direction of the current
flowing through the 5 ohm resistance asc shown in figure 2. [16]

between the two.
(b) A cast steel magnet has an air gap of 3mm and an iron path of 35cm. find
the number of ampere turns (A ) necessary for producing a flux density of
1.25 wbs/m2 (Tesla). The relative permeability of cast steel is 1000 Neglect

(b) The primary winding of a 50 HZ single phase transformer has 480 turns and is
fed from 6400 V supply. The secondary winding has 20 turns. Find the peak
value of flux in the core and the secondary Voltage. [8+8]

6. (a) Derive the expression of induced emf of dc generator.


(b) An 8 pole lap wound dc generator has 960 conductors, a flux of 40 milliwebers
and is driven at 400 rpm. Find induced emf. [8+8]

7. Explain with the help of suitable diagrams how rotating magnetic field is produced
in a three phase induction motor. [16]

1. A Wheatstone Bridge consists of AB=4 ohms, BC=3 ohms, CD= 6 ohms and
DA= 5 ohms. A 2v cell is connected between A and C. Find the current through
galvanometer connected between B and D. As shown in figure 1. [16]

a full load slip of 3%. Find the full load speed of induction motor and also

1. (a) What is meant by induced e.m.f? What are the different types of induced
e.m.f? Explain.
(b) A coil 250 turns is wound on a magnetic circuit of reluctance 1,00,000AT/wb.
If a current of 2 A flowing in the coil is reversed in 5m/sec, find the average
e.m.f induced in the coil. [8+8]
2. (a) Three equal resistances of value R ohms are connected in a delta (mesh)
fashion. as shown in figure 2 If this is to be replaced by an equivalent star
connected resistances R1 R2 and R3 . what are the values of R1 , R2 , & R3 in
the terms of R.
(b) Calculate the equivalent delta connected resistances values for the following
star connected resistances. [8+8]

3. A 600 - turn coil is wound on the central limb of the cast steel frame as shown in
figure 3. A total of 1.8 × 10−3 wb. is required in the air gap. Find out the current
required in the coil. Assume gap density is uniform, and that all flux lines pass
