1. (a) Obtain the expressions for star-delta equivalence of resistive networks.


(b) Determine the voltage appearing across terminals y-z if a d.c. voltage of 100V
is applied across x-y terminals in the figure1b. [6+10]

5. (a) A 3 phase 3 wire balanced supply is connected to an unbalanced 3 wire star


connected load. Derive an expression for the neutral displacement voltage
between supply and load neutral points.
(b) A 3phase, 3 wire 208 volts BYR system has a star connected load with
ZR = 66 00 Ω ZY = 66 300 and ZB = 56 450 . Obtain the line currents and
load voltages of the circuit using the neutral displacement method. Draw the
phasor diagram. [6+10]

6. (a) For the given network graph shown in figure6a, write down the basic Tieset
matrix, taking the tree consisting of edges 2,4 and 5. Write down the KVL
network equations from the matrix.

1. (a) Explain KCL and KVL and their basis.


(b) For the network shown in figure1. Determine the resistance between the points
A and B. All resistances are of one ohm each. [6+10]

ductors when both the currents enter dot marked terminals. Also obtain the
expression for the total energy stored, if one current enters the dot, while the
other leaves the dot.

and a resistance of 15Ω the parallel with a series combination of a variable
capacitance and resistor of 80Ω. It is supplied by a 60v source. If the supply
frequency is 1MHZ, what is the value of C to give resonance? [8+8]

5. (a) Derive an expression for total active and reactive Power of a 3 phase delta
connected balanced load.
(b) A balanced star connected load has an impedance of (8+j6) ohms/ph and
supply voltage is 230ν, 3phase supply. Find
i. line current.
ii. power factor.
iii. total active power and
iv. total reactive power

If the same impedances are connected in delta across the same supply instead
of star, determine the above quantities. [6+10]

6. (a) Find the values of R1 and R2 in the network shown in figure6a using loop
method of analysis.

7. (a) State and explain the compensation theorem.

1. (a) Write a note on independent and dependent sources.


(b) What is the value of R such that the powers supplied by both the sources are

5. (a) Show that two watt meters are sufficient to measure total power in any three
phase circuit and indicate the way in which the watt meters are to be con-
nected. If the load is balanced, derive the expressions for the readings of the
two-watt meters.
(b) A 3 phase, 3 wire, 280 V balanced ABC system is applied to an unbalanced
star connected load with impedances ZA = 106 00 Ω, ZB = 106 300 , and ZC =
106 − 300 ohms. Determine the voltages across each of the load impedances
and the neutral displacement voltage. [8+8]

6. (a) Design an m – derived T – section low pass filter having Cutoff frequency fc
= 1000Hz, design impedance Rk = 600Ω and frequency of infinite attenuation
f∝ = 1050 Hz.
(b) For the given network, draw the oriented graph and a Tree. Write down the
basic Tieset schedule the following figure6b.
