1 Introduction
The AS-7000 Protection System is a rack based industrial instrument. It includes a chassis,
passive backplane, and configurable modules coupled with rear interface cards. The
modules can be installed or removed as needed depending on the application requirements.
For protection applications, they operate independently, providing a fault tolerant system.
Additionally, the AS-7000 provides access to real-time streamed data for use with Alta
Solutions machinery or analysis software applications. Up to a total of 64 protection channels
can be configured to interface to many types of sensors including, accelerometers, pressure
transducers, velocity transducers, and displacement probes.
Features Include:
Up to 64 dynamic inputs
Up to 8 speed inputs
Continuous gap free parallel sampling of all channels
Data streaming via standard Ethernet connection to PC or laptop
Wide input voltage tolerance and power input protection
Low power, fan-less design

Before energizing the AS-7000 System, ensure a well-established earth safety ground
reference is available and connected to the chassis at the AS-7035I card.
Except for the fuses in the AS-7035I card, there are no field serviceable parts within any
of the AS-7000 hardware. Do not open any access panels. Service should only be
accomplished by a qualified factory representative.
Do not operate the AS-7000 where flammable vapors are present.
Do not operate the AS-7000 where conductive pollution is present.
The AS-7000 should not be used where it can be splashed with any fluid.
This manual describes several aspects of the AS-7000 system hardware including
specifications, connections, mounting, servicing, and operation. It is applicable to all
factory configured versions.
The AS-7000 system should not present a hazard to operating personnel if installed and
operated in accordance with the instructions in this manual.
Please read the manual completely and follow all notes, cautions, and warnings
before operating.
This note symbol is intended to alert the reader to the presence of important
information
This caution symbol is intended to alert the reader to the presence of important
instructions that should be followed to prevent possible personal injury or
equipment damage.
This warning symbol is intended to alert the reader to the presence of important
instructions that should be followed to prevent possible personal injury or death
from electrical shock.

The AS-7000 chassis provides slots to insert protection modules and interface cards, guiding the
connection to the integrated passive backplane. The backplane provides both distributed
power and communication access to the installed modules. Front and back connectors in
each slot allow direct communication between front modules and rear modules. The chassis
slots are numbered starting from the left (slot 1) and incrementing to the right. AS-7030SM, AS-
7050MP, and AS-7070TM modules are installed in the front while companion AS-7035I, AS-
7055IT, and AS-7075I cards are located at the rear. The first two slots (1 and 2) at the front of
the chassis are reserved for AS-7030SM modules only.

o Module is a Slave
Do not route the PROGRAM port Ethernet cable through a switch, router, or any
other Ethernet management device. This port utilizes a low level raw Ethernet
proprietary interface instead of a TCP/IP protocol. The high bandwidth of the
streaming data could degrade all network traffic performance.
Note: To write a configuration, the system must be in the “configuration mode” as described
in the following section.
Using the AS-410 Machinery Analysis Software, an operator can perform the following:
Real-time time, spectral, and transient analysis
Gap-free streaming of dynamic data for playback
Transfer of data to other external systems (historians and control systems)
When the AS-7000 system is in the “LOCK” mode, the operator can still run the
AS-7000 Configuration Software to connect, read current configuration, and
view live data. However, while in the “LOCK” mode, if the operator tries to
“write” or download a new configuration to the AS-7000, the following warning message will
appear:
LED Indicators

OFF OFF No valid link / No communication
Valid link established

ON OFF

and transmit activity (100Mb rate)
While the system will continue to operate at voltages within the alarm range
(+15Vdc to +18Vdc / +30Vdc to +33Vdc), this could cause excessive heat and
shorten internal component life. Corrective action should be taken to avoid
long term operation under these conditions.

All dynamic input commons are connected. Do not connect earth grounded
sensors. If using earth grounded sensors, a galvanic isolation circuit should be
employed to break any ground loops that could introduce noise into the
system.
