DESIGN CODES, STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS

This design project conforms to the following codes and standards and References.
 American Institute of Concrete (ACI 318-05)
The American Concrete Institute adopted “Building Code Requirements for structural
concrete (ACI 318-05) and commentary (ACI 318R-05)” as a standard on October 27,
2004.Changes include load factors and strength reduction factors, which were revised to
be consistent with ASCE 7-98. For the design of members, the code also introduces a
new concept of “compression-controlled” and “tension-controlled” sections. This article
summarizes the strength reduction factors (f) to be used for design of reinforced and
prestressed members. The author has developed expressions for the strength reduction
factors for reinforcement other than grade 60 (fy =414 MPa).

 National Structural Code of the Philippines 2015 7th edition

This updated Structural Code establish minimum requirements for structural systems
using perspective and performance-based provisions. It is founded on broad-based
principles that make possible the use of new building designs. Also, this code reflects
the latest seismic design practice for earthquake-resistant structures

 Fundamentals of reinforced Concrete Design 2nd edition (by: Svetiana Brcev and John
Pao)
The cardinal objective of this to provide reference to civil engineers and Civil
Engineering students taking-up Reinforced Concrete Design. This may also serve as a
guide to civil engineering students who will be taking the license examination given by
the PRC.

 The Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) Steel Handbook

The Sustainability Design will be designing of cistern water supply by collecting of
rainfall water for sanitary uses only.
The results will undergo analysis on which design method is fits best the design
constraints that help effective project completion. The final design will be based on the
designer’s ranking with regards to design constraints and will be compared to
sustainability building
Constraints, Standards and Trade offs

DESIGN CONSTRAINTS
The following constraints were considered on the design project.

1. Cost. The design structure must not be overly priced, but it should also not be focused on
saving costs because it would hinder the safety of the structure.
2. Safety. This project aims to keep its users safe from an earthquake, which makes safety the
most important factor for this structure.
3.Duration. The structural design that is safe and correctly follows the design according to the
plan can be attained with the given duration using the easily constructible materials and having
the network diagram to get the construction done as fast as possible.
4.Sustainability. The structural design that has the capability of meeting the needs of the
present generation without being compromise with the ability of future generations in meeting
their needs.
5.Economic. The structural design that involves economic is contributes whether in production
distribution and consumption of goods and services.
