PHILOSOPHY AND LOGIC

1. Thanos, the villain in Avengers Infinity War knows that due to widespread neglect
and carelessness, the earth and universe has become disorganised and chaotic.  He
desired to eliminate half the population for the sake of peace, and ultimately to save the
whole universe.  Was he truly an evil villain in thinking and doing so? And was he justified
in his actions? (*Justified implies that one’s action was reasonable and tolerable).

Honesty, I personally haven’t watched the Avengers Infinity War. But now I am
aware who is Thanos is, because of social media and I did a research to know him
better, and to have a better argument. In the description, he wants to change the
world and eliminate half of the population for the sake of peace and to save the
universe. I believe that his desires are good, but it is executed in a bad way. The
downside that I can say toward his actions is that he is not selective when it comes
to killing. He will kill randomly, whether you are good or bad. His actions are also
selfless because he sacrificed her daughter in order to achieve his goals. He didn’t
want to conquer the universe and he is not seeking power for himself. It is not an act
of greediness, but to help everyone from the suffering that they are in by snapping
his fingers and to turn the half of the humanity into ashes without feeling any pain. In
conclusion, I believe that he is not an evil villain, his desires are only for the good of
the whole universe.

2. An abortion clinic had only three employees, the doctor who performed the abortion,
the nurse who assisted, and the gardener who tended the outer gardens of the clinic.
One day the police arrived and arrested all three.  Was the police justified in arresting
even the poor gardener? Justify your answer.

In this specific scenario, I believe it is just right for the police officer to arrest the
gardener. Because if the abortion clinic had only three employees, I will assume that
it is just a small clinic, so he is aware of what is the service/illegal operation that they
are operating and that the country where it is located does not legalize abortion. He
may not be part of their illegal operation, but he is aware and has a free will to stop
or report them. The gardener may also be invited/arrested to become a witness, in
order to know the truth and whether he/she is a suspect for the crime. No one is
above the law and everyone should abide the laws that keep our world round. It
excuses no one.

3. A 60 year old man named Juan had a motor accident and was unconscious. Rushed
to the hospital and about to die, the doctors had nothing to do but to operate on him.  But
when they removed his clothes, they saw in his chest a tattooed inscription, “Do
Not Resuscitate!”.  If you were the doctor, will you honor his request or will you continue
the operation to save his life?

If I am the doctor, without a second thought, I will choose to continue the operation
and save his life. Why? It is part of my job and it is my obligation to save someone’s
with the best of my ability. I cannot let someone die in my hands without giving my
best shot and I will continue to do that. It maybe a very hard decision but I believe
that there is more in life and I believe that he has someone that is waiting for him. I
also believe that If your time has come, no one can stop it even if the smartest and
most skillful doctor in the world.

4. Of the three outcomes in the study of Philosophy and Logic (Communication

Skills/Persuasive Powers/Writing Skills), which do you think will be most helpful to you as
an Architecture student? Explain well.
These three outcomes are very important in the field of architecture. But I will
personally pick up, which I think the most important, and that is communication
skills. I believe that a having a good communication skill get can you to a lot of
places and opportunities. There are a lot of people that who have a great
communication skill, that became very successful in this field. How you negotiate
and talk is a big help in order to explain your design process and what is the
meaning behind your design concept. It is necessary to have a good communication
in order to have a better outcome of a project especially if it is by group. In
architecture, projects are done by negotiating with your client and with your
colleagues throughout the process until when the project is done. Architecture is
also a way to communicate with the use of your design by using non-verbal way but
by through drawing and even the finished structure itself.
