PARTICULAR TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SHALLOW TUBEWELL

1 General
This contract covers the construction of 4" diameter Shallow Tubewells as well as supply and installation of
accessories in specified locations. All the materials equipment for completion of shallow tubewells shall be supplied
by contractor. The contractors shall use their own drilling tool or machine. The details of well location shall be
provided immediately after the contractor award.

2 Shallow Tube Well Construction:

The Shallow Tubewell (4" Dia) shall be constructed in the specified location by available suitable local Manual
Hammering (Thokuwa), or by Drilling Machine or by slouser Methood. Contractor shall assure with skilled
manpower for drilling operation. Minimum 0.2 m of the pipe should be exposed above the ground level after final
completion of the shallow tubewell for fitting tubewell accessories such as Bottle T, Suction Pipe etc.

3 Well Design and Screen

The well configuration shall consist of 4" dia. HDPE and Screen at the appropriate position depending on the site
condition. The Screen shall be perforated made of HDPE pipe (4 kgf).

The depth of the shallow tubewell may vary from 60 to 80feet depending upon the site condition. However, the
depth variation beyond given range cannot be ruled out unless and until the supportive situation prevails. The
screen shall be placed at the bottom portion of the well. Typical Diagram of Shallow tube well is shown in figure.

Some of the areas for shallow tubewell installation might be in sump, due to deep water level i.e. beyond the
suction limit of the centrifugal pump. Contractor shall construct the well as guided by the office and in co-
ordination with the water users. Contractor should have no way to avoid the development work even if it is
installed in the sump. No additional cost will be paid for the well development work in such situation.

4 Well Development:
After construction of shallow tubewell the well shall be developed by pump set for minimum of 3 hours, but the
well may require more hours of pumping for development until the yield is clear depending on the subsurface layer
and the position of well screen.

5 Discharge
The shallow tubewell shall produce sufficient discharge for irrigation purpose. The discharge of the shallow
tubewell shall not be less than value mentioned below. The shallow tubewells with less than mentioned discharge
shall be considered as failure or inadequate for irrigation discharge.

6 Tubewell Numbering (STW Logo/Tag)

After the well construction and development, numbering of shallow tubewell shall be done for identification and
avoid duplication as per specified design, print or imprinted tag on the exposed part of the GI pipe and/or
accessories in the form of tag.

7 Materials and Equipment:

7.1 HDPE Pipe
(i) The HDPE pipe shall be of 4 kgf (NS Standard or equivalent).
(ii) The inner diameter of the Pipe shall be 4".
(iii) The both end of the pipe shall be threaded up to 2" or hot plate join
(iv) The length of per piece pipe shall be 5 m.
7.2 Screen
(i) The screen shall be perforated into HDPE pipe (NS Standard or equivalent). The length of per piece screen shall be 5 m.
(ii) The size of perforations shall not exceed 1 cm and number of perforations per 3 m of screen length shall be around 250.
(iii) The inner diameter of the HDPE screen shall be 4".
(iv) The minimum wall thickness shall be 4.05 mm.(Tolerance limit 5%)
(v) One end of the HDPE screen shall be attached with MS knoke/CI knoke while the other end of screen shall be threaded
up to 2" or hot plate join.

8 Record Keeping
The contractors must keep records of all constructed tubewells. A standard sheet should be completed in the field and kept
for each installed tubewell. Information for each installed tubewell should include its unique identification number and
geo-reference in a systematic manner.

9 Completion Report
A ‘Completion Report’ containing detail information including tubewell identification, Contract information, date of start
and completion of installation, depth of tube-well, development results of water and other technical information of the
tubewell should be submitted to the office as a proof of completion of task and acceptance by respective users. The Form
is attached herewith the bid document.
