Welcome Back Cabs! I am looking forward to a great semester, but first, let’s go over some of
the nitty gritty…

Course Description Homework

In semester 2 of Algebra 1, we are going to
dive deeper into equations and functions to
continue building a successful mathematical
foundation.
Topics Covered
- Chapter 4 - Writing Linear Functions
- Chapter 5 - Solving Systems of
Linear Equations
- Chapter 6 - Exponential Functions
and Sequences
- Chapter 7 - Polynomial Equations
and Factoring
- More will be covered time permitted
“We’re already AT home, Ms. Morey. Isn’t
all our work technically homework?”
After discussing with Mrs. Montoya, we
have decided to change the way
“homework” is graded – homework will
take place during Zoom via either a Pear
deck or some other activity and will be
graded based on completion. * Each will be
worth 5 points.
If you have an excused absence from Zoom,
you will also be excused from the
‘homework’ for that day.
*Completion does not mean scribbling on
the page. Completion means that you did the
work.

Tests/Quizzes
Quizzes will be given in the middle of
chapters that allow for them. You will have
minimum of two days’ notice of an
upcoming quiz. There will be no pop
quizzes in this class. Each quiz will be worth
50 points.
Tests will be given upon completion of each
chapter. Due to the online/hybrid
environment, students will be given two
days to complete any and all tests. Any
extensions must be approved by the
teacher before the due date of the test.
Each test will be worth 100 points.
Grades
Grading will be assigned as before on a
standard 10-point scale:
A = (90 – 100%)
B = (80 – 89.9%)
C = (70 – 79.9%)
D = (60 – 69.9%)
F = (0 – 59.9%)
Semester grades are assigned as such:
40% Quarter 3
40% Quarter 4
20% Final Exam
Academic Integrity
Students are expected to be turning in their
own work. If students are found to be
copying another student’s work, both
students will receive zeros for the
assignment. If you are not learning the
mathematics, please do not try and fake it.
Consequences
Positive: Extra credit points, positive
classwork feedback, email to parents about
success
Negative: Private reminder of expectations,
loss of credit for homework, email to parents
Classroom Rules and Expectations
- Be on time!
- Unmute yourself if you have a
question.
- Keep chat on topic, it is a place to
ask questions, not a place for side
conversations.
- Come to Zoom and do not zone out!
- Take notes!
Tips for Success
- TAKE NOTES! General rule of
thumb, if you have to ask if you
should be writing something down,
the answer is YES. Writing things
down helps you learn!
- Advocate for yourself. Ask
questions! If you are confused,
chances are that someone else is too
– they’re just too afraid to ask.
- Get the wrong answer. If you fail
and persevere, you are teaching your
brain and yourself that you can do
anything, as long as you work hard at
it!!
Attendance/Tardy Policy
IMPORTANT: The google form bell work
will NO LONGER be how we check
attendance. You MUST sign in to Zoom or
you will be MARKED ABSENT.
If you have an excused absence, you will be

video lecture will be posted, and you will be
expected to watch it within two days of
your absence.
Hello!
My name is Ms. Morey (as your kids know!) and I look forward to getting to know them better
this semester as I step out of a more observational and supportive role in the classroom to that of
the lead teaching. Given these crazy, chaotic times, we know that any changes are often
overwhelming, but not to worry! Mrs. Montoya and I will still be working closely together. I
hope I can get your kids on the path to loving math by encouraging an environment of mutual
