ANALYSIS OF PRIMARY DATA

The data collected through the questionnaire for Textile Industry was based on local clothing brands which are
not registered and come under small businesses and entrepreneurs. As the situation of Covid’19 pandemic
affected every individual globally, In Pakistan those businesses which are on average level were affected
immensely as well. This questionnaire helped us in our research on how retails in Textile Industry got their
business conditions maintained and how they are planning to overcome the phases of Covid’19 in future.

The analysis of the data is explained in consolidated description, furthermore, the graphs are showing
individually on the basis of selective responses. Most of the businesses are owned or managed by Males as
compare to females which are In business since 1-10 years approximately. Around 113 brands were interviewed
in Karachi’s famous cloth markets like Hyderi, Tariq Road, Millenium Mall, and Nazimabad etc. The target was
mainly on un-registered brands which have 1-10 employees hired on average. The responses on covid’19
related questions were quite consistent on that it has been a serious threat to their business which highly
impacted their operations and their revenues decreased by 50% while some of the brands which had online
retail got their revenues increased as the trend of online shopping has become a new eco-mall so 70% of the
brands have started their online outlets as well.

The lockdown halted the business operations for almost 2 quarters and it highly impacted on their sales, 50%
retailers believe that they will be able to overcome the loss in 6-12 months while the rest are not sure on how
long it will take them to reach the break-even point. They have been reviewing their strategies looking over the
conditions and predicted situations so it’s less difficult for them to save their business and the revenue below
the line. As retail outlets run their activities on everyday situations most of them neither have contingency plans
nor continuity plans because the smart lockdown has reduced their operational hours but not halted or closed
their outlets therefore they are able to perform again the way they were before all these crisis.

The Covid’19 assistance programs to sustain the economy donot make sure these retailers that whether they
will be able to cope up with the situation and bring themselves back on track because most of them responded
that these programs are mainly for large scale vendors and suppliers and their business donot fit in that
category. That is also the reason that they donot find any opportunities in Covid crisis and they would want to
postpone the payments of bills/taxes/cheques/ loans from Government as a support mechanism.

The SOP measures taken by these retailers mostly included hand sanitizers and made entry with masks
compulsory, reduced their operations according to government instructions and increased their personal

hygiene as well. The reduction in operational hours highly impacted their sales and activities too but they also
agree that following the SOPs have saved them from getting their outlets sealed and getting their operations
completely halted.
