 Reading letter Ra with light or
broad sound
• We need to know when to read the letter Ra
with light/thin or broad/heavy sound.
• In order to determine this, we need to look at
the harakah of the letter Ra.
• If the letter Ra is sakin (it has no harakah), we
look at the harakah of the previous letter
 Letter Ra ‫ر‬
When to read the letter Ra with thin voice?
• The letter Ra has zayr below it: ‫ِر‬
– e.g. ٌ‫ان‬0ْ2‫ ِر‬4َ 5َ6

• The letter Ra is sakin, but the letter before it has zayr:
– e.g. ًَ ْ
