1. Purpose
The purpose of this document is to detail the steps required to setup email from
SAP. It is by no means aimed at replacing the official SAP documents on the topic.
2. Introduction
SAPconnect provides a direct connection to the Internet using the SMTP plug-in of
the SAP Web Application Server. This enables you to send and receive Internet mails
without the need for an additional external communication system, as well as faxes
and text messages (pager/SMS). The SMTP plug-in is available for Internet mail as of
SAP Web AS 6.10, and for fax and text messages (pager/SMS) as of SAP Web AS 6.20

3. Prerequisites
Logon to the SAP System you are trying to setup email on. Note, the configuration is not
cross client, which means each client will have to be configured
4.1 Configure user ID email addresses
• Logon to the system, in our example we are logging on to Solution Manager
• Go to transaction SU01 (Enter the transaction code on the command field and
press <ENTER>)
• Enter the user ID you are trying to maintain and choose change
• Under the address tab (default selected tab), maintained the user’s email
address
• Click on SAVE
• Press <ENTER>
• Double click on the SMTP node
• Change Hours/Minutes to 2 to ensure that the mail sending job runs every two
minutes. You can make this any value, as long as you understand that it’s the
intervals (in hours or minutes) that the job that collects the waiting messages
and actually send them runs.
• Next ensure that the Node in use is ticked /checked
• Enter the mail host (if you are unsure what this is, ask your Message Server
administrator, or the network guys. Alternatively, you can check your outlook
settings.
• You should have something that looks like this:
Next Step
• Enter a * (for all address types) under the address area, or enter a list of
allowed address types.
• Still on the same screen (under Recipient), enter the email address for the
recipient, and choose internet Address under Recip.Type
• Click on Send
Because we have setup our job to run every 2 minutes, we cannot wait for two minutes
to find out if your configuration was successful. So, we need to kick start the job
manually.
• Go to transaction SCOT
Here you will notice that your message is waiting in the queue
• You only have SMTP, so leave the address type as *ALL (or select the desired
address type)
• Click Start
Congratulations, you have successfully configured SAPCONNECT SMTP for sending email out
of sap purposes.
