Activity #1: Analysis of Loads

At the end of the activity you will be able to;

 Analyze the loads acting on the structure and should be able to solve the external forces at
the supports.

Activity #1: Analysis of Loads MODULE 1 - PRELIM

1. Determine the deadweight of I-m long segment of the reinforced concrete girder in the given
figure constructed from lightweight concrete with a unit weight of 16 kN/m 3.

2. The uniformly distributed live load on the floor plan in the figure is 60 lb/ft2. Establish the
loading for members (a) floor B1, (b) girder G1, and (c) girder G2. Consider the live load
reduction if permitted by the ASCE standard.

Activity #1: Analysis of Loads MODULE 1 - PRELIM

3. The elevation associated with the floor plan in the figure shown. Assume a live load of 60 Ib/ft2
on all three floors. Calculate the axial forces produced by the live load in column B2 in the third
and first stories. Consider any live load reduction if permitted by the ASCE standard.

4. Determine the external wind pressure on the roof of the rigid gabled frame of a nonessential
industrial building shown in Fig. The structure is located in a suburban, where the terrain is
representative of exposure B. The wind direction is normal to the ridge of the frame as shown.
(V= 110mph).
