Music influences teenage culture

Music can influence teens in many different ways. Some use it as a cooping mechanism
when emotions are heightened or when they just want to dance. Music comes in many different
forms, hip- hop, R&B, Country, Pop, Musical theatre, classical, and so many more. Each genre
can affect each person one way or another but have the same outcome as the other genre. If you
take rap and country music and put them against each other. You would immediately notice the
style is different. Now if both songs had the same words but in a different genre, they still can
affect the teens listing to the song. This can also come into play with remixes.

Remixes often change the original song. You have artist who come together to make the
song better and change the words to get to teens and adults. Sometimes this happens to promote
world problems. Such as the Black lives matter movement. Many artists came out with songs to
show their outrage against police brutality. Artist like Kendrick Lamar with “Alright”, Beyoncé
“Superpower”, and J. Cole “Be Free”. These songs gave many people the strength to fight for
what’s right and what they believe in.

Reasons why you should care

 Without music most great ideas wouldn’t be made.
o Best Ideas or writing come when listing to music
 Most teens use music to express themselves
 Sometimes music changes the game
In musical theatre, actors sing songs to express the way they feel. In “kinky Boots the
Musical” a song called “I’m not my father son” by Cyndi Lauper. Was written for the character
Lola/Simon and he sings about not being the person his father wanted him to be. This song gave
many people who saw the show a change of heart.

Now you may be thinking about music that doesn’t have words and wondering how it can
affect tens. Well it affects them in the same way. In todays age of teens most of them care more
for the beat and feel of the music. In classical music, each person playing an instrument can feel
the music. When I play in middle school, I could feel the music change my view of things.
Sometimes sound would be hard to play because I could feel the impact on my life it had at the
time.

What you should take away from this is how music in any form can influence any ten in any
way. Whether it be from the lyrics or feel of the music, it still changes their shape. Sometimes
music makes you want to dance, cry, or just be happy. It gives each person something to rely on.
An outlet for emotions that are built up and just needed to be let out.

Hayley Williams even stated that a song she wrote called “Misery Business” was away to let
out emotions from when she was a teen. Music will forever affect teens and adults. Without
music, I believe life would be hard.
