Which of the different types of accommodation below have you stayed at?
Think of a place you have stayed at during your travels. Try to make as many truthful statements as
possible using language from this exercise.

4 Practice
Work in pairs. Take turns to select and talk about one of the cue cards below. Try to use vocabulary
from this lesson. Remember, you have 1 minute to take notes and 1-2 minutes for talking.
Describe a hotel you have stayed in. You should talk about:
- the location of hotel
Talk about accommodation you have stayed in during a trip or holiday. You
should say:
- what kind of accommodation it was
- why you chose this place
- where it is located
And say whether or not you enjoyed your stay and why.
5 Discussion (Part 3)
Discuss any of the questions below.
1. What are the advantages of staying with a friend compared to staying in a hotel when visiting a foreign
country?
2. What are the features of a good hotel?
3. In your country, how do people treat visitors from abroad?
4. Do you think hospitality jobs are desirable?
5. Do you think the hotel industry should be regulated? Why?

1- Types of accommodation
Explain the slight differences in meaning. Encourage use of the present perfect, e.g. "I've stayed at a hotel."

This can be done as a pairwork exercise or individually. Monitor the activity. Explain any unfamiliar words. Some
words have more than one meaning, e.g. `cold' (not hot) and `cold' (unfriendly).
Building: luxury, rundown, modern, empty, cold, well-located
Rooms: pricey, modern, spacious, cosy, smelly, spotless, cold, unfurnished
Staff: friendly, cold, cheerful
4- Practice
Monitor the activity. Students should always give a relevant answer for each topic.
5- Discussion (Part 3)
Encourage a discussion among the students (in pairs or groups). Monitor the activity, make notes of language
mistakes and do a class feedback.
