Try to stay in a central hotel in Sultanahmet. Take a comfortable pair of walking shoes &walk or
tram to all major sights. Be prepared before you go with ideas of what you want to see most.
Start early!!you need to be up & about before 9-00clock or it gets crowded.Especially the trip on
the Bosphorous, you need to be there for the 6 hour trip by 9-15/9-30 to get a seat even though it
doesn't go till 10-30.Get near to the exit doors as everyone surges when they open! Price June 09
was 20 Lira each.Sunday is very busy as locals are about too so do the boat trip then.Spice
market & Bazaar closed Sundays, Hagia Sophia closed Mondays, Tokapi Palace closed
Tuesdays(price 20 lira+15harem).Try the great selection of restaurants around the Blue Mosque
area, (find the main road with tram lines) &browse the side streets for one you fancy. Can
recommend the Amedros Restaurant after seeing reviews here.Cafe Istanbul just outside entrance
to Bazaar is new & great coffee & snacks.Easy to see things on your own so get walking & enjoy
this exciting City.Take Lira or English as 5% charge on travellers cheques at exchanges.

1.V Turkish belongs to the Ural-Altaic family of languages, and is rather different from
languages of the Indo-European family. There are 29 letters in the Turkish alphabet, and
it may be helpful to look at the list of letters following this phrase list to familiarise
yourself with the pronunciation. You can see that some of the endings (especially the
questions in these examples) have an '-iz' . This indicates a formal, less familiar tone,
similar to "vouz" in French.
2.V Turkish pronunciation is phonetic, very few letters are 'swallowed' in most instances each
letter is pronounced, usually in pairs i.e. Merhaba is pronounced MARE - HA - BA with
the MARE being pronounced as mare in english, HA as in haha :o), BA as in bah
humbug :o)
3.V Try using a little Turkish whilst your here, it will be greatly appreciated and bring a big
smile.
4.V One very important phrase is Hoş Geldiniz pronounced "hosh gel din iz". You may well
hear this a lot as you enter a resturant or shop, it's a form of greeting, it's near literal
translation is "You came well", basically well come or welcome :o) The proper response
is Hoş Bulduk pronounced "hosh bull duk", " we found well". If you remember nothing
but this you'll go a long way :o)
5.V The phonetic pronounciation is written using english English pronounciation, sorry to any
Americans etc. just pretend you're English and use that pronounciation :o)

1.V Person: We toured Istanbul for 3 days with Soner and he was fabulous! He was very
pleasant, knowledgable, professional and was flexible to our needs. He packaged a 3-day
custom tour for 4 of us and we did indeed see all that you're "supposed to see" when in
Istanbul for the first time. He took us to restaurants where the local eat. It was an
unforgettable experience. I would certainly use Soner again and would highly recommend
Soner.

3.V Management Response

(Management representative)
Jun 29, 2010
OV I am so sorry. You are right, the guide that agency called for the day was so bad (I
really didn't know that before). I talked to the guide Arif after the complaint and he
admitted all the complaints. The recommended travel agency hired a new guide for
that day who was not experienced enough. I am so sorry again, I will be more careful
about it. Nice to hear that you got the refund. Hope to meet you another time and I will
be your guide then.

Sincerely,
Soner Tufan
