Intelligent Systems

Intelligent systems are technologically advanced machines that perceive and respond
to the world around them. The field of intelligent systems focuses on how these systems
interact with human users in changing and dynamic physical and social environments. Early
robots possessed little autonomy in making decisions: they assumed a predictable world and
performed the same action(s) repeatedly under the same conditions. Today, a robot is
considered to be an autonomous system that can sense the environment and can act in a
physical world in order to achieve some goals.

Our department focuses on the application of intelligence system in the field of electrical
engineering in order to equip the students to adapt to the evolving era of the Smart Energy
System. The Smart Energy System concept is essential for cost effective 100% renewable
energy systems. The concept includes a focus on energy efficiency, end use savings and
sector integration to establish energy system flexibility, harvest synergies by using all
infrastructures and lower energy storage cost.

The department in this journey has so far trained the students on how to build intelligence in
any system through special workshops, value added courses and realized its outcome through
some real time energy savings project implementations inside the campus. The students have
installed intelligent Automation Lighting Systems using PIR sensors at various places inside
the college that includes our laboratories & the Principal cabin. The students have also
automated the laboratory and department through IoT using voice Assistants and mobile
Applications. The students always take up real time use cases as their mini project / project
and carry out their works within the college campus which is fully supported by the
department infrastructure and technical guidance.

Presently the department is working in the area of Smart Energy System that incorporates the
renewable energy to build energy efficient infrastructures. The department possess rich
experience in solar installation as it has already installed a 1kW solar PV system with net
metering facility at the sister concern institution. With the newly established advanced
renewable energy system laboratory, the students are trained with building intelligent
renewable energy efficient homes and integrating them with the electrical grid. In addition,
research works are being carried out in the area of smart energy system by the faculty
members. The department also initiated a programme “ Earn while you learn" in which the
students are taught to manufacture LED lights that serves as replacement to the existing
fluorescent lamps.

Robotics

.Robots are machines that have been programmed to implement series of tasks independently
or semi-autonomously, while Automation involves the use of computer software, machines or
other technology to implement tasks which would normally be handled manually by human
workers. Robots and automation have applications across several fields such as the military,
agriculture, manufacturing, forex trading and the renewable energy industry . Robotics play
an important role in the realm of energy sustainability. With advances in Industry 4.0,
software engineering, hardware and technology improvements based on robotics automation
and systems integration complex problems related to the management, optimization, uniform
distribution, and diagnostics of energy systems can be addressed. Along with the
development of control techniques and information processing algorithms, it is possible to
manage the energy used by actuating systems. The application of robots and automation is
helping companies in the solar energy manufacturing space to make smart and instant
production decisions, which minimizes the cost of labour and improves productivity. The
department always look to expand its horizons and by which it has started to envisage the
Robotics application in optimizing the energy demand. A team specially devoted to robotics
will be initiated and the technology will be imparted to the students in the department's
trademark way of “ learn by doing" that contains experiments like pick & place operations
and designing line follower robots.
