Abstract
This project to prove the time scheduling system based on web based in our
campus or Defense College of Engineering. Now a day the time scheduling is
paper based or manually. Therefore our project idea to avoid the overlapping
scheduling time and room during exam and class time table based on the database.

In Defense engineering college season of exams and the class scheduling session,
the various departments of an institution of education facing the difficult task of
drawing up timetables for exam and the class time scheduling .The difficulty due
to be great complexity of the construction of timetables for exams.

Chapter one

Introduction

1.1 Background
The General Timetabling System for university refers to a computer generated
timetabling system for exam and class scheduling that best suits to most of the
departments‟ timetable structure in Defense university, especially within or
nearby Defense university college of engineering . The system requests a
complex algorithm to organize, arrange and generate the timetable, as well as a
simplest interface for the inputs and outputs. Hence, the timetabling problems
could not be solved easily.

Recently, a survey on the timetabling system of some colleges in Defense college

of Engineering area has been carried out. Colleges in Defense University like
defense engineering college, Healthy science college, Mulugeta Buli are still now
using the manual system to arrange and manage the timetable for the lessons. This
involves a lot of workloads, efforts and skills to produce a satisfactory timetable.
Therefore, a Timetabling Committee consists of two to three teachers are
established to generate the timetable and manage the sit-in teachers for who
cannot conduct their classes along the school days. The study and implementation
of this system is hopefully assisting the teachers to produce the timetable in an
easier, faster, more efficient and effective manner. Eventually the teachers have
more time on their lesson plan which is more valuable to the students.

As a general timetabling system, the proposed system will be developed to suit to

the timetable structure of local collages or university. Since there is limitation on
user involvement and time constraint or restrict, the desired system will focus on
the requirements of a few chosen collages in Engineering and healthy science
collage. The timetabling structures in most local collages are similar.
Basically, the focus is on the features of inputting data and constraints,
generating, viewing and printing the timetable, as well as saving and retrieving
the databases

1.2 Problem statement

The conventional manual timetabling system requires a lot of manpower, heavy
workload and time consuming to arrange the entire variables, especially with
increasing constraints and clashing time and room during exam schedule and class
schedule. The allocation of the teachers, locations and subjects into the best
timeslots is a problem by finding practical ways of task that is difficult to be
solved manually. Moreover, the outcome might not satisfy the teachers‟
requirement like an equivalent working period on every day and potential of
clashing cannot be avoided. Existing autonomous (organization able to govern
itself) timetabling systems are costly, and the structure of foreign timetabling
system might not meet the college’s requirements. Therefore an automated
computer generated timetabling system is needed. However, good timetabling
system involves a lot of considerations to meet the demand or requirements of
University or colleges.

1.3 Objectives

1.3.1 General Objectives

The main objective of this project is to develop a new Web Based class and exam
scheduling time tabling System which solves the above mentioned problems with
the existing system. This is achieved by designing a web based application
program that will change the actual manual processing into a computerized
environment.
1.3.2 Specific Objectives
The Specific Objectives of this project are:

To add schedule for class and exam

To detect conflict or clashes in schedule

To print schedule, view schedule and search data.

To print class and exam schedule by Teacher, class and Room.

To add department, room, teacher, course in data base.

To update, delete and edit files.

To store data in data base for using later.

1.4 Scope of the project

Since the defense university college of engineering performs its basic tasks
manually the scope of this project is to develop and implement a new Web
based exam and class scheduling System for Defense Engineering college
Center which will avoid the problems associated with the manual processing.

1.5 Implementation tool system

We use the following System Development the system for documentation’s and
implementations of the new system.

1.5.1 Hardware tool

 USB-Drive- for transfer file from one devices to another
 Laptop-to write documentation and to develop the code.
 Printer- to print the document.
 Internet cable-connect to internet to find some information from internet
1.5.2 Software tool for frontend
 Operating system windows 7/8/10- used to display on screen
 Firefox browser- to browse the web page to develop
 Presentation power point-used to prepare presentation slide.

1.5.3 Software tool for backend

 Wampserver for backend to creating data base.
 MSQL to create database on sever

1.6 Methodologies
Fact-finding techniques

To gather data from the different users and store of the existing system the team
used the following techniques.

1.6.1 Interview
By using both structured and unstructured interviews collect data. Orally
discussing some user of these system and student in DEC to collect data.

1.6.2 Observation
By visiting the existing system to identify the problem and list out the solution of
this problem theoretically change to practical situation.

1.6.3 Document
To get more secondary source information and ideas about the expert system,
project report documents and other reading materials that were needed to develop
this system.
1.7 Benefits and beneficiary of the project

1.7.1 Benefits of the project

1. Cost consumes Reduction
2. Error Reductions.
3. Increase Speed of activity.
4. Increase securities.
5. Increase Management flexibility.
6. Time consumes Reduction

1.7.2 Beneficiaries of the project

Developing a new automated way will make all activities easy and the concerned
bodies can easily prepare the time schedule in season exam and class schedule.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the time schedule committee in the
department and all students of DEC because of the class and time overlapping is
avoiding.

1.8 Feasibility of the analysis

It determines the potential of the existing system.

It used to determine/finds out the problem of the existing system.

To determine all goals of the new system.

It finds all possible solutions of the problems of the existing system
