 Welcome to TVL 11- ICT(Computer System Servicing)!

The ​Learning ​Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Antique and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents, and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The ​Learning Activity Sheet ​is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.
  

For learning facilitator:

 The ​TLE/TVL CSS NC II Activity Sheet ​will help you facilitate the
leaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will
be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the independent
learning.

For the learner:

The ​Computer System Servicing NC II Activity Sheet ​is developed to help

you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides
you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an

II. Background Information for Learners

Introduction

The Microsoft® Web Platform is a powerful set of tools, servers, and

technologies optimized for building and hosting next-generation Web
applications and solutions. At the base of the Microsoft Web Platform is
Windows Server® 2008, Windows Server® 2008 R2, or another Windows
Server® operating system version. Windows Server 2008 R2 comes with
Internet Information Services 7.5 (IIS 7.5), a Web server and
security-enhanced platform for developing and reliably hosting Web
applications and services. Windows Server 2008 comes with IIS 7.0. IIS 7.0
and 7.5 (together known as IIS 7) include a componentized architecture for
greater flexibility and control. IIS 7 and above also provides simplified
management and powerful diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities. IIS
Manager extensions make it easy to administer local and remote Web
servers.

IIS 7 and above, together with the Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.0,
provides a comprehensive platform for building applications. Additionally, IIS
plays a central role in unifying the Microsoft Web platform
technologies—Microsoft® ASP.NET, Windows® Communication Foundation
(WCF) Web services, and Windows® SharePoint® Services.

Operating System Editions

Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are available in

multiple editions to support the varying server and workload needs of
organizations. The four main editions include Windows Server® 2008 R2
Standard, Windows Server® 2008 R2 Enterprise, Windows Server® 2008 R2
Datacenter, and Windows® Web Server 2008 R2 (or Windows Server® 2008
Standard, Windows Server® 2008 Enterprise, Windows Server® 2008
Datacenter, and Windows® Web Server 2008). See Overview of Editions for
more detailed information about the various editions of Windows Server 2008
R2 and Windows Server 2008.

Hardware Requirements
Processor — Processor performance depends not only on the clock
frequency of the processor, but also on the number of processor cores and
the size of the processor cache. The following are the processor
requirements:

● Minimum: 1 GHz (for x86 processors) or 1.4 GHz (for x64 processors)
● Recommended: 2 GHz or faster
RAM — The following are the RAM requirements:

● Minimum: 512 MB
● Recommended: 2 GB or more
● Maximum (32-bit systems): 4 GB (for Windows Server 2008 Standard)
or 64 GB (for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise or Windows Server
2008 Datacenter)
● Maximum (64-bit systems): 32 GB (for Windows Server 2008
Standard) or 2 terabyte (for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise,
Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, or Windows Server® 2008 for
Itanium-Based Systems)
Disk space requirements —The following are the approximate disk space
requirements for the system partition. Itanium-based and x64-based
operating systems will vary from these estimates. Additional disk space may
be required if you install the system over a network:

● Minimum: 10 GB
● Recommended: 40 GB or more

● DVD-ROM drive
● Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution monitor 
● Keyboard and mouse (or other compatible pointing device) 
The bare metal Installation

What do we mean by “bare metal”?

Two types of Server 2008 installations:

a. Bare Metal - No existing operating system on the HDD
b. Upgrade - Installing over Server 2008 R2 (or another operating
system) is
installer on the HDD
Bare Metal​ is the simplest installation possible (recommended by Microsoft
as the preferred method)

STEP IN INSTALLING WINDOWS SERVER R2 (BARE METAL/CLEAN

INSTALL)

1. After booting up from your install disk, you will arrive at a language and
preferences screen. Once you have chosen those options, you get to the
Operating System Selection page. Depending on your license and the
purpose
of your server, there are a variety of options to choose from. For our purpose
today, we are going to choose the Standard (Full Installation) version.

1. Read the standard End User License Agreement.

3. Since we are doing a base install and not an upgrade, so we choose the
Custom (advanced) option.

4. We’ve got a blank 500 GB disk, so we’re just going to install it there. If you
want to create a partition out of the available drive space or reformat a drive,
then choose Drive options (advanced).

5. Windows will take a little while with your install and reboot a few times.
 
 
 
 
6. Once the install is finished, we’re prompted to change our password before
logging in​.  

7. Windows requires that you have a strong password, seven characters long
with at least three of the four following: uppercase letter, lowercase letter,
 numeral, or symbol. You’ll want to make sure you write it down somewhere for
now, because if you forget it later, the entire install will have to be re-done.

Congratulations, you are now done with Windows OS 2008 R2 Installation.
