1 9 .  How does QTP recognize Object s in AUT? ­ Quick Test stores the definitions for
application objects in a file called the Object Repository . As y ou record y our test, Quick
Test will add an entry  for each item  y ou interact with. Each Object Repository  entry
will be identified by  a logical nam e (determ ined autom atically  by  Quick Test), and will
contain a set of properties (ty pe, nam e, etc) that uniquely  identify  each object. Each
line in the Quick Test script will contain a reference to the object that y ou interacted
with, a call to the appropriate m ethod (set, click, check) and any  param eters for that
m ethod (such as the v alue for a call to the set m ethod). The references to objects in the
script will all be identified by  the logical nam e, rather than any  phy sical, descriptiv e
properties.
2 0.  What  are t he t y pes of Object  Reposit ories in QTP? ­ Quick Test has two ty pes of
object repositories for storing object inform ation: shared object repositories and action
object repositories. You can choose which ty pe of object repository  y ou want to use as
the default ty pe for new tests, and y ou can change the default as necessary  for each
new test. The object repository  per­action m ode is the default setting. In this m ode,
Quick Test autom atically  creates an object repository  file for each action in y our test so
that y ou can create and run tests without creating, choosing, or m odify ing object
repository  files. Howev er, if y ou do m odify  v alues in an action object repository , y our
changes do not hav e any  effect on other actions. Therefore, if the sam e test object exists
in m ore than one action and y ou m odify  an object†™s property  v alues in one
action, y ou m ay  need to m ake the sam e change in ev ery  action (and any  test)
containing the object.

 2 1 .  Explain t he check point s in QTP? ­ A checkpoint v erifies that expected inform ation
is display ed in an Application while the test is running. You can add eight ty pes of
checkpoints to y our test for standard web objects using QTP. A page checkpoint checks
the characteristics of an Application. A text checkpoint checks that a text string is
display ed in the appropriate place on an Application. An object checkpoint (Standard)
checks the v alues of an object on an Application. An im age checkpoint checks the
v alues of an im age on an Application. A table checkpoint checks inform ation within a
table on a Application. An Accessibility y  checkpoint checks the web page for Section
508 com pliance. An XML checkpoint checks the contents of indiv idual XML data files or
XML docum ents that are part of y our Web application. A database checkpoint checks
the contents of databases accessed by  y our web site
2 2 .  In how many  way s we can add check point s t o an applicat ion using QTP? ­ We
can add checkpoints while recording the application or we can add after recording is
com pleted using Activ e screen (Note : To perform  the second one The Activ e screen
m ust be enabled while recording).
2 3 .  How does QTP ident ify  object s in t he applicat ion? ­ QTP identifies the object in
the application by  Logical Nam e and Class.
2 4 .  What  is Paramet erizing Test s? ­ When y ou test y our application, y ou m ay  want to
check how it perform s the sam e operations with m ultiple sets of data. For exam ple,
suppose y ou want to check how y our application responds to ten separate sets of data.
You could record ten separate tests, each with its own set of data. Alternativ ely , y ou
can create a param eterized test that runs ten tim es: each tim e the test runs, it uses a
different set of data.
2 5.  What  is t est  object  model in QTP? ­ The test object m odel is a large set of object
ty pes or classes that Quick Test uses to represent the objects in y our application. Each
test object class has a list of properties that can uniquely  identify  objects of that class
and a set of relev ant m ethods that Quick Test can record for it. A test object is an object
that Quick Test creates in the test or com ponent to represent the actual object in y our
application. Quick Test stores inform ation about the object that will help it identify  and
check the object during the run session.
2 6 .  What  is Object  Spy  in QTP? ­ Using the Object Spy , y ou can v iew the properties of
any  object in an open application. You use the Object Spy  pointer to point to an object.
The Object Spy  display s the selected object†™s hierarchy  tree and its properties
and v alues in the Properties tab of the Object Spy  dialog box.
2 7 .  What  is t he Diff bet ween Image check-point  and Bit  map Check point ? ­ Im age
checkpoints enable y ou to check the properties of a Web im age. You can check an area
of a Web page or application as a bitm ap. While creating a test or com ponent, y ou

 specify  the area y ou want to check by  selecting an object. You can check an entire
object or any  area within an object. Quick Test captures the specified object as a
bitm ap, and inserts a checkpoint in the test or com ponent. You can also choose to sav e
only  the selected area of the object with y our test or com ponent in order to sav e disk
Space. For exam ple, suppose y ou hav e a Web site that can display  a m ap of a city  the
user specifies. The m ap has control key s for zoom ing. You can record the new m ap that
is display ed after one click on the control key  that zoom s in the m ap. Using the bitm ap
checkpoint, y ou can check that the m ap zoom s in correctly . You can create bitm ap
checkpoints for all supported testing env ironm ents (as long as the appropriate add­ins
are loaded). Note: The results of bitm ap checkpoints m ay  be affected by  factors such as
operating sy stem , screen resolution, and color settings.
2 8.  How many  way s we can paramet erize dat a in QTP? ­ There are four ty pes of
param eters: Test, action or com ponent param eters enable y ou to use v alues passed
from  y our test or com ponent, or v alues from  other actions in y our test. Data Table
param eters enable y ou to create a data­driv en test (or action) that runs sev eral tim es
using the data y ou supply . In each repetition, or iteration, Quick Test uses a different
v alue from  the Data Table. Env ironm ent v ariable param eters enable y ou to use
v ariable v alues from  other sources during the run session. These m ay  be v alues y ou
supply , or v alues that Quick Test generates for y ou based on conditions and options y ou
choose. Random  num ber param eters enable y ou to insert random  num bers as v alues in
y our test or com ponent. For exam ple, to check how y our application handles sm all and
large ticket orders, y ou can hav e Quick Test generate a random  num ber and insert it
in a num ber of tickets edit field.
2 9 .  How do u do bat ch t est ing in WR & is it  possible t o do in QTP, if so explain? ­
Batch Testing in WR is nothing but running the whole test set by  selecting Run Test set
from  the Execution Grid. The sam e is possible with QTP also. If our test cases are
autom ated then by  selecting Run Test set all the test scripts can be executed. In this
process the Scripts get executed one by  one by  keeping all the rem aining scripts in
Waiting m ode.
3 0.  If I give some t housand t est s t o execut e in 2 day s what  do u do? ­ Adhoc testing
is done. It Cov ers the least basic functionalities to v erify  that the sy stem  is working
fine.
3 1 .  What  does it  mean when a check point  is in red color? what  do u do? ­ A red
color indicates failure. Here we analy ze the cause for failure whether it is a Script Issue
or Env ironm ent Issue or a Application issue.
3 2 .  What  is Object  Spy  in QTP? ­ Using the Object Spy , y ou can v iew the properties of

3 4 .  Explain t he concept  of object  reposit ory  & how QTP recognizes object s? ­ Object
Repository : display s a tree of all objects in the current com ponent or in the current
action or entire test (depending on the object repository  m ode y ou selected). We can
v iew or m odify  the test object description of any  test object in the repository  or to add
new objects to the repository . Quicktest learns the default property  v alues and
determ ines in which test object class it fits. If it is not enough it adds assistiv e
properties, one by  one to the description until it has com piled the unique description. If
no assistiv e properties are av ailable, then it adds a special Ordinal identifier such as
objects location on the page or in the source code.
3 5.  What  are t he propert ies y ou would use for ident ify ing a browser & page when
using descript ive programming? ­ Nam e would be another property  apart from
title that we can use.
3 6 .  Give me an example where y ou have used a COM int erface in y our QTP
project ? ­ com  interface appears in the scenario of front end and back end. for eg:if y ou
r using oracle as back end and front end as VB or any  language then for better
com patibility  we will go for an interface. of which COM will be one am ong those
interfaces. Create object creates handle to the instance of the specified object so that we
program  can use the m ethods on the specified object. It is used for im plem enting
Autom ation(as defined by  Microsoft).
3 7 .  Explain in brief about  t he QTP Aut omat ion Object  Model. ­ Essentially  all
configuration and run functionality  prov ided v ia the Quick Test interface is in som e
way  represented in the Quick Test autom ation object m odel v ia objects, m ethods, and
properties. Although a one­on­one com parison cannot alway s be m ade, m ost dialog
boxes in Quick Test hav e a corresponding autom ation object, m ost options in dialog
boxes can be set and/or retriev ed using the corresponding object property , and m ost
m enu com m ands and other operations hav e corresponding autom ation m ethods. You
can use the objects, m ethods, and properties exposed by  the Quick Test autom ation
object m odel, along with standard program m ing elem ents such as loops and
conditional statem ents to design y our program .

but Properties are not with Test Object then..u can add properties for test
objects by  using setTOProperty  m ethod.

Hi Friends,

I am  new to this group, i ahv e one question to ask.

My  question is:

My  application is using FarPoint for Grids.

While recording: But QTP doesn†™t recognize FarPoint directly , it

records grids as SwfObject which m eans a single Object(and not a grid which
contains Rows and Colum ns) using Lower end points.

After searching on internet I found Activ eX Grid Control is the way  which

supports FarPoint.

But still am  not able to catch properly .
If any one get the solution but rev ert bac asap

Hi, I am  currently  experiencing som e basic problem s with QTP scripting, since I

am  setting a v alue to a WebEdit text box. When running the application
m anually , once the textbox gets ty ped in, the next com bobox (WebList) gets
enabled, but when running the QTP script, the com bo rem ains disabled.
I’v e tried to set the v alue directly  or v ia Table, and also for the innertext,
outertext, innerhtm l and outerhtm l properties, with sam e results.
How can I get that Com bo box enabled?

only  if y ou send som e key stroke to web edit.so Set will not work,y ou hav e to
send key  stroke to webedit by  creating
Set ws =  CreateObject(”WScript.Shell”)
Now send a click to webedit,Browser().Page().webedit().click
then send key  stroke
ws.SendKey s “data”

hi all ,
i hav e a question .i hav e to div ide the text in the notepad to different
paragraphs, without using the split function as the text doesnt hav e any  special
characters to differentiate the paragraphs,isthere any  function for pasting the
content in the word docum ent ? as objSelection.ty petext
this function ty pes all the text captured as a notepad text without any
paragraph div isions..but i need to ty pe as a paragraphed text ..can any one help
on this issue ?

If y ou use GetROProperty  m ethod to get the v alue of the object†™s

property , do y ou need to hav e this object described and the property  of the
object in Object Repository ?

In TestPartner, there is a function “TextExists(som e_text)”, which returns true
or false based in whether the text ’som e_text’ is present within a
window/m essagebox/editbox etc. Is there any  such function or any  inbuilt
function in QTP that does the sam e?

No u don’t need the object to be present in the Object Repository .
This property  is used to get the runtim e data from  the appication.
But, QTP needs to identify  that object whose particular property  u need to
capture. For this u m ay  need that object in Object Repository  or else u can use
descriptiv e program m ing.

Hello,

If any  one can help m e on this it will be v ery  helpful.

Question:
In a web page there are fields like, Nam e, Date, Picure, Next button.

To enter the date I hav e to click on sm all icon next to date field which opens up

as sm all windoe sam e as calendar. We can m ov e to next m onth, y ear in this
calendar. This is recognized by  QTP as Im age object.

Issue is QTP is not recognizing the date I select from  this calendar. It records just
the click on im age but does not recognize the date field in the calendar.

Is it possible to do in QTP?
Writing a script if it can be done please do let m e know how.

It is v ery  urgent.Please help m e on this.

Hello,

I had question on how to write test cases.
For exam ple if in a web page we hav e Nam e, Age, & Address fields. Do we hav e
to test different conditions for each field?

For eg:
nam e:hav e to test 1 0 possibilities.
Age: hav e to test 1 0 possibilities.

In such scenario do we write different Testcases for different fields or com bine
them  all into one testcase?

If there are + v e and ­v e testcases for each field, do we com bine them  into one

single testcase?

Using QTP 9 .0, hav e a problem .

The test is recorded, but I don’t see all steps in the “Activ e Screen”, that m eans
that I don’t see the GUI v isual steps. What is going on?
