ENERGY AUDITING:
As a result of changes in the energy
marketplace, the role of energy audit has
greatly expanded. There is an increasing
need in business and industry to more
effectively manage energy use. Reducing
utility costs is still one of the most effective
and achievable strategies for lowering the
operating costs. Keeping in view the same,
Energy Systems Pvt. Limited has launched
Energy Efficiency (EE) Projects through
Energy Audit (EA) to set a new horizon in
the field of Energy Conservation & adoption
of Renewable Energy Solutions in Industrial
Sector of Pakistan.

- What is an Energy Audit?

Energy audit can mean different things to different individuals. But Energy Systems
believe that for an Organization:

“Control & Check on energy utilization is passport to prosperity”

An energy audit is a technical review of energy utilization of a building or an industrial

process to determine where energy is being wasted and/or over consumed and possible
saving potential without compromising the system’s efficiency.

“An Energy Audit can save your money, compare your energy cost with the competitors
and gather information to support the improvements”

- Why to Conduct an Energy Audit?

Why Energy Audit? Best argument can ever

be “Self Interest” to Control & Save your
asset. A well conducted energy audit helps
in precisely benchmarking the energy
utilization & comparing the same with
existing facts and figures to explore the
possible savings by implementing certain
innovation to boost energy efficiency.

. Energy Audit should always remain an integral part of Annual Commercial & Industrial
activities for sustainable development.

. Energy Audit often explores opportunities to improve productivity, comfort and safety.

- How to Conduct an Energy Audit?

9
Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile
Energy Audit is slow ripening process which involves multiple activities of different
complexity levels. Basic audit levels, in order of increasing complexity are.

Level 1 – The Walk-Through Audit

Energy Systems offer the walk-through
audit, as it name implies is a tour of the
facility to visually inspect each of the energy
using systems. It will typically include an
evaluation of energy consumption data to
analyze energy use quantities and patterns as
well as provide comparison to industry
averages or benchmarks for similar
facilities. It is the least costly audit but can
yield a preliminary estimate of savings
potential and provide a list of low cost
savings opportunities through improvements
in operational and maintenance practices.

Level 2 – Standard Audit

The standard audit is next to the walk
through audit in which our engineers will
quantify energy uses and losses through a
more detailed review and analysis of
equipment, system, and operation
characteristics. This analysis may also
include some on-site measurement and
testing to quantify energy use and efficiency
of various systems. Standard energy
engineering calculations are used to analyze
efficiencies and calculate energy and cost
savings based on improvements and changes
to each system. The standard audit will also
include an economic analysis of
recommended conservation measures.

Level 3 – Computer Simulation

The level three audit will include more
details of energy use by function and a more
comprehensive evaluation of energy use
patterns. This is accomplished through use
of computer simulation software. Energy
Systems will develop a computer simulation
of facility that will account of weather and
other variable and predict year-round energy
use. The audit’s goal is to build a base of
comparison that is consistent with the actual
energy consumption of the facility.

10
Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile
After this baseline is built, the Energy Systems will then suggest changes/modifications
to improve efficiency of various systems and measure the effect compared to baseline.
This method also accounts for interactions between systems to help prevent
overestimation of savings. Because of the time involved in collecting detailed equipment
information, operation data, and setting up an accurate computer mode, this is most
expansive level of energy audit but may be warranted if the facility or systems are more
complex in nature.

Level 4 – Reporting
The general flow of audit activities is to
identify all energy systems, evaluate the
condition of the systems, analyze the impact
of improvements to those systems, and write
up an energy audit report. This report
explains the existing conditions of the
building and/or industrial facility in terms of
the envelop, equipment, lighting, and
occupancy, followed by recommendations to
improve efficiency through improvement in
operation and maintenance items, and
through installation of energy conservation
measures, or ECMs.
Energy Systems effectively communicates audit findings and recommendations to
increase the chance of action being taken to reduce energy consumption. Audit Report
includes Executive Summary, Building Information, Utility Summary, Energy

Level 5 – Retrofit Process

Basic process of retrofit project is similar to
a new construction project; there are some
special considerations in a retrofit project.
Most of these stem from the difference
between the working with the existing
system and design versus the ability to start
with a clean sheet of paper for new system.
Energy Systems help its clients through this
phase, the most important, to benefit him to
maximum possible levels.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM

Energy Efficiency (EE) Program offers

clients a minimum guaranteed energy
savings through the implementation of
energy efficiency measure and sound
technical expertise. Savings are guaranteed
and capped for typical mutually agreed
contract durations of Energy Efficiency (EE)
Project. However, the energy savings will
vary according to changes in tariff, operating
schedule and installation of new equipment.
This program includes as below:

- Develop and design of energy efficiency projects.

- Install and maintain the energy efficient equipment involved
- Measure, monitor and verify projects energy savings
- Assume risk that the project will save the amount of energy guaranteed
- Energy Surveys
- Energy Auditing
- Energy Efficiency

The above services will be bundled into project’s cost and are repaid through monetary
Savings guaranteed.

All energy efficiency measures are implemented without compromising the comfort,
efficiency, safety and quality of building and equipment.

Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile
ENERGY TRADING & CONTRACTING
Energy Systems is leading in developing the people, systems and expertise those allow us
focus on our clients needs. Our expertise span over nation and overseas in multiple industrial
& commercial sectors. Our commitment is to provide high quality & innovative engineering
designs and consultancy services. With a mission to be engineering firm of choice in the
market we serve, the value added services we deliver are as:

1. CO-GENERATIION AND TRI-GENERATION ENERGY SYSTESMS:

Conventional thermoelectric process

converts only about 1/3 of the fuel energy
into electricity. The reset of the energy
(two third) is lost in form of heat reasoning
high utility rates & adverse effect to the
environment.

Cogeneration is a consecutive
(simultaneous) production and
exploitation of two energy sources,
Electricity (or mechanical) and thermal,
from a system utilizing the same fuel.
Combined heat and power production
(CHP) is applied in industry and building
where there is simultaneous demand of
electricity and heat and, usually, when the
annual hours of operation exceed 4000.

In warmer climates the need for heating is limited to few winter months. There is,
however, significant need for cooling (air conditioning) during the summer months.
Heat by a cogeneration plant is this case is used to produce cooling, via absorption
cycle. This “expanded” cogeneration process is known as trigeneration or combined
heat, cooling and power production (CHCP). By adoption of CHCP over 90% of the
fuel energy is put into the useful electrical & thermal energy and eliminates the
requirements of multiple energy resources, e.g. purchasing electricity from Electric
Supply Companies and burning fossils in a furnace to produce heat or steam.

2. SMART BUILDING SYSTEMS;

A smart home or building is one which

usually is a new one that is equipped with
special structured wiring to enable
occupants to remotely control or program
an array of automated home electronic
devices by entering a single command.

Most smart-building systems comprise a

series of distributed sensors and specialized

14
Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile
actuators connected to application software
running on a local or remote processor.
Which includes, Advance HVAC and
lighting controls, Smart metering
capabilities, allowing central access to real
time utility data, A structure cabling
infrastructure with high bandwidth and
connectivity, Adaptability to changing
technology and tenant needs.

- Variable Frequency Drives

A variable-frequency drive (VFD) is a

system for controlling the rotational speed
of an alternating current (AC) electric
motor by controlling the frequency of the
electrical power supplied to the motor. A
variable frequency drive is a specific type
of adjustable-speed drive.

Variable-frequency drives are also known as adjustable-frequency drives (AFD),

variable-speed drives (VSD), AC drives, micro-drives or inverter drives. Since the
voltage is varied along with frequency, these are sometimes also called VVVF
(variable voltage variable frequency) drives.

- Watanymizer M.I.R Panels

Watanymizer provides the latest solution
for conserving energy to meet the growing
demand for electricity in Pakistan.
Watanymizer is a high performance
electric power saving device, which uses
M.I.R (Mutual Inductive Rector)
technology. The revolutionary
Watanymizer is the most reliable and safe
power saving device invented ever in the
history of mankind.

- Heat Recovery Unit

Heat recovery equipment must take into

account temperature and pressure ranges,
corrosiveness of the effluent and input
streams, presence of material that could
foul the heat exchange surfaces, and

15
Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile
thermal cycling. In addition, the waste-
heat source and the site for use of the
recovered heat should be reasonably close. In a process that requires heat as an input,
using waste heat can displace fuel or electricity that would otherwise have to be
purchased.

- Energy Meters

The energy meter is an electrical measuring

device, which is used to record Electrical
Energy Consumed over a specified period
of time in terms of units.

Energy meter is basically an assembly of

electrical and mechanical components. The
design of energy meter depends upon
which rating of current and voltage upon
meter has to work.

- VAV Boxes

Variable Air Volume (VAV) is a technique

for controlling the capacity of a heating,
ventilating, and/or air-conditioning
(HVAC) systems. A variable air/volume
box, more commonly known as a VAV
box, is an essential part of air-conditioning
in any large industrial or commercial
building.

- Frequency Converters

A frequency converter can be a single or

three phase and also change voltage thus
functioning as a power converter from one
frequency level to another desired level. A
frequency changer or frequency converter
is an electronic device that converts
alternating current (AC) of one frequency
to alternating current of another frequency.

3. THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS;

Thermal energy storage can refer to a

number of technologies that store energy in
thermal reservoir for later reuse. Thermal
energy storage (TES) systems can play an
important role, as they provide great

16
Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile
potential for facilitating energy savings and
reducing environmental impact.

4. SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS;

The sun produces a range of energy which

can only see a small part of as visible white
light. A photovoltaic cell (PV Cell)
produces electricity on the principle that
electricity will be produced when two
semiconductors are exposed to a particular
wavelength of light.

5. WATER & SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANTS;

- Water Treatment Plants

Water treatment plant and system operators

treat water so that it is safe to drink. Liquid
waste treatment plant and systems
operators, and also known as wastewater
treatment plant and system operators,
remove harmful pollutants from domestic
and industrial liquid waste so that it is safe
to return to the environment.

- Sewage Treatment Plants

Treatment of sewage is essential to ensure

that the receiving water into which the
effluent is ultimately discharged is not
significantly polluted. Raw influent
(sewage) includes household waste liquid
from toilets, baths, sinks and so forth that
is disposed of via sewers.

6. SECURITY SYSTEMS;

A system and method for establishing

secured communications pathways across
an open unsecured network, without
compromising the security of any parties to
the communication, involves establishing
secured gateways or firewalls between the
internet and any party which desires
protection.
17
Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd. – Company Profile

E The fact that the world is under one of the most worst global recession, it is
important for us to work together to find a solution that saves energy for future
use. Pakistan is one of the leading nations facing shortage of power supply
the goes up to 16 hours per day in certain areas. In one of my presentations at
the HVACR society meeting 2008, I suggested a mathematical assumption that
helped save and generate 10% of the energy required. However, with the increase in
shortage of generation and usage of power, new methods of conserving and
generating energy should be found.

The main reason why I would like to participate in the meeting is the fact that I have
the experience and knowledge of energy crisis and saving. I’ve mastered these
techniques with the help of researching foreign publications and my own interaction
and experience in making energy saving buildings and constituting a team which I
can lead to help create a way to at least lessen the already heavy burden on the
people of Pakistan and its citizens. Pakistan is amongst the top 5 countries of the
world to produce the highest production of power however due to the negligence of
the uninformed citizens we waste a large amount of power which is leading our
country to destruction. This problem can only be sorted out if people, like me come
forward and present their ideas and methods on conserving and saving energy. My
main aim is to conserve as much power as humanly possible and help this world
have a better future. My firm aims to establish a platform for energy conservation in
Pakistan and preferably in the entire world. There is no shortage of ideas in Pakistan
but these ideas can only come into being if there is a platform for them to flourish
and using my knowledge, experience and expertise, my team and I can establish this
platform and help Pakistan and this world face a better energy conserved future!
